Theatre@First dives headfirst into ancient Greek myths to explore the transformational power of love in Mary Zimmerman's Metamorphoses. Performed from April 8 - 16 at the Davis Square Theatre in Somerville, MA, this unique show weaves together a dozen ancient Greek myths into a piece that is equal parts drama and comedy.

Adapted from David R. Slavitt's translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses, Zimmerman's play brings a powerful interpretation to the myths of Midas, Eros and Psyche, Orpheus and Eurydice, Phaeton, Narcissus, and more. T@F's performance of Metamorphoses features an ensemble of 12 local actors, each taking on multiple roles as gods, monsters, lovers, monarchs, and more. The talented cast has worked with Movement Director Daniel Abraham to create a vivid vocabulary of movement that enhances the beautiful words of the script. Audiences should take note that the show confronts many adult themes, including incest, grief, nudity, and sexuality.

At the helm is T@F's founding Artistic Director Elizabeth Hunter, who has previously directed more than a dozen projects with the company. Metamorphoses has been a dream project of Hunter's since 1998 and Threatre@First is proud to make her long-time vision part of its twelfth season.

Two special ticketing nights will be offered during this show's run, including Pay-What-You-Will Night on Sunday, April 10th (7 PM) which encourages patrons to enjoy quality, affordable theatre on their own terms. Wednesday, April 13th (7 PM) will be Industry Night, an opportunity for other local theatre groups to attend at a discount, with postcards in hand for their upcoming shows!

Since its founding in 2003, Theatre@First has produced more than thirty main-stage shows, as well as cabarets, Shakespeare slams, and a popular series of staged readings. A vital part of the thriving Somerville arts scene, Theatre@First draws on the talent and support of individuals and organizations throughout our community to provide affordable, quality theatre in a variety of local venues.
