Theatre By The Sea to Open Summer Season with SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, 6/3

The award-winning Theatre By The Sea (TBTS) will bring the juke box to life when they open the 2015 Season with their all new production of SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, opening Wednesday, June 3 and playing through Sunday, June 21. Press night is scheduled for Friday, June 5 at 8:00 p.m.

The show Time Magazine called, "Exuberant!" - SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE is a tribute to the music of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the brilliant team who wrote songs for rock legends like Elvis, Dion, the Coasters, and the Drifters. The show opened on Broadway on March 2, 1995 and ran 2036 performances becoming Broadway's longest running musical revue, ever. SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE transforms classic pop into compelling musical theater with a fast-moving and electrifying score. This high-spirited evening of entertainment features 41 toe-tapping classics such as "Hound Dog," "On Broadway," "Love Potion #9," "Poison Ivy," "Yakety Yak," and more.

"Smokey Joe's Cafe a fun celebration of the power of music to connect people with their past and with one another," said TBTS owner and producer Bill Hanney. "The music of Leiber and Stoller, ruled the charts during the golden age of rock 'n' roll. It captures the voice of different ages, different locations, and different ethnicities. This musical brings people together and takes them back in time to relive special experiences and to celebrate life. It is the perfect way to kick off the summer at Theatre By The Sea."

A talented cast of nine singers and dancers bring SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE to life each night onstage. The cast features Malcolm Armwood (Adrian), Alana Cauthen (B.J.), Kendall Chaffee-Standish (Pattie), Kevin Curtis (Victor), Patrick Graver (Michael), Israel R. Hillery (Ken), Darrell T. Joe (Frederick), Mary Claire King (DeLee, Dance Captain), and Brittany Walters (Brenda)

Theatre By The Sea's Artistic Director, Kevin P. Hill, will direct and choreograph SMOKEY JOE'S CAFÉ. The creative team also includes Kevin P. Hill (Director, Choreographer, Artistic Director), Mike Moise (Music Direction), Cassandra Lentz (Scenic Design), Dana Pinkston (Costume Design), Bailey Costa (Lighting Design), Leon Rothenberg (Sound Design), Eileen F. Haggerty (Production Stage Manager), and Michaela Brown (Stage Manager).

Smokey Joe's CafE runs June 3 - June 21, Tuesdays through Sundays. Check the website for exact dates and show times. Tickets are $42 for preview performances on June 3 & 4 and $45, $55, & $65 for all other performances. Theatre By The Sea's 2015 Musical season will continue with My Fair Lady starring Charles Shaughnessy (June 24 thru July 18), Disney's The Little Mermaid (July 22 thru August 15), and concludes with Young Frankenstein (August 19 thru September 6).

Theatre By The Sea's popular Children's Festival includes Cinderella (July 10), The Frog Prince (July 17), Legally Blonde, Jr. (July 31), The Airborne Comedians (August 7), and Keith Michael Johnson's Bubbleology (August 14). All shows at 10am & 12 Noon and all tickets are $12.
