Boston marathon bombing survivor, Heather Abbott will join The John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Women's Health Empowerment Luncheon, "Never Count Us Out." The Empowerment Luncheon - hosted by The Health Museum - will feature an inspiring keynote address by Abbott about true grit, determination, and strength, and will take place at 1515 Hermann Dr., Houston, Texas 77004.

"Heather's story is one of perseverance and strength, and one we are certain will be inspiring to all attendees of the 'Never Count Us Out' Empowerment Luncheon," said Dr. Melanie Johnson, President and CEO of The Health Museum. "We are excited to bring her passion and powerful message to our community."

A model of strength and perseverance, Abbott elected to have her left leg amputated below the knee after she survived being blown into the entrance of a nearby restaurant when two bombs exploded on Marathon Monday in Boston in 2013. Since then the now certified peer counselor for the American Amputee Coalition, has dedicated her life to inspiring others to overcome the challenges in their own lives.

Today, Abbott is an avid paddle boarder, runner, athlete, and national motivational speaker.

The "Never Count Us Out" Chairs are ABC 13 Anchor, Gina Gaston and Kellie Cohen Fein, MD.

Proceeds raised during the "Never Count Us Out" Empowerment Luncheon will benefit the various programs operated by The Health Museum - a member institution of the Texas Medical Center and Houston's most interactive science learning center - to motivate and inspire the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers, mathematicians, and medical practitioners.

The Health Museum is the most visited health museum of its kind in the nation, having welcomed more than 2.5 million guests since its inauguration. Its mission is to foster wonder and curiosity about health, medical science, and the human body.

The "Never Count Us Out" Empowerment Luncheon will take place at The Health Museum, 1515 Hermann Dr., Houston, Texas 77004, and will include the museum's founders and other distinguished guests, as well as an exquisite lunch.

Individual tickets start at $250, with table sponsorships ranging from $2,500 to $25,000. Dress code is POWER suits. To secure tickets or for more information, please visit thehealthmuseum.org/luncheon2017 or call Vicki Johnson at 713-337-8445.
