The Circuit Theatre Company, a local, IRNE-nominated company run and operated by theatre artists ages 18-25 from across the country, has announced that it will close its summer season with the East Coast premiere of Nathan Allen's epic cycle, "The Valentine Trilogy," at the Boston Center for the Arts. Its season will also feature the Boston premiere of "The Amish Project" by Jessica Dickey, and the world premiere of the new rock musical, "Nicky Park Memorial Park" by Deepali Gupta and Ned Riseley. All productions are produced, directed, designed, and acted by young theatre professionals.
"The Valentine Trilogy," directed by Circuit's artistic director Skylar Fox, is a theatrical experience like Boston has never seen. It tells the story of one unlikely hero as he grows up, falls in love, makes mistakes, falls to darkness, and, ultimately, redeems himself. Created at the House Theatre of Chicago, one of Chicago's hottest theatre companies, this trilogy of full-length plays presents one continuous story, but does so in the style of three film genres: a western, a samurai film, and a superhero noir. Plus, there's a kick-ass live band playing a catchy rock score, cowboys on bicycles, and flying old people. These plays, presented together in rep for the first time by The Circuit Theatre Company, are sure to thrill you, as they ask the question: "What does it take to be a hero in America?"
"The Amish Project" is a timely play about the 2006 Amish schoolhouse shooting that explores the emotional and psychological aftermath of violence in America. Five actresses play over 20 characters in this painfully relevant and heartfelt Boston premiere.
"Nicky Park Memorial Park," is part rock concert, part play. It is a story about growing up and the ghosts we meet along the way, brought to Boston by a team of young writers who took NYC by storm last summer with their electro-dance adaptation of Gertrude Stein's "Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights."
"The Valentine Trilogy" will play at the Roberts Studio Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts from August 2-17. "The Amish Project," directed by Alex Keegan, will play at the Cambridge YMCA Theatre June 21-27. "Nicky Park Memorial Park" directed by Abby Colella, will play at the Boston Playwrights' Theatre July 5-7.
