Under the umbrella of the Provincetown Community Compact, the Provincetown Playwrights' Lab is a nonprofit organization that nurtures, inspires, and supports the writing of plays through readings, workshops, staged productions, and annual events. Founded in the 1980s, the Lab has long provided regular gatherings where playwrights on Cape Cod and beyond can network with each other and other local artists. In 2010 at the Provincetown theater, the Lab began producing the yearly 24 Hour Plays: Provincetown. In January 2019 the Lab began holding bi-monthly meetings to read and critique plays-in-progress on the first and third Saturdays of the month, from 2-5pm at the Provincetown Theater, where all are welcome to attend and participate
The Provincetown Theater is owned and managed by the Provincetown Theater Foundation (PTF). A community arts institution, the Provincetown Theater is a 501c3 not-for-profit performing arts center, producing year-round entertainment on the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown, MA, the Birthplace of American Theater. Sponsorship for the 2019 season is due, in large part, to the generous support of Cape Air, WOMR, 102.3 Dunes FM, Hook, Provincetown Magazine, Strangers & Saints, Fanizzi's, Victor's, The Mews, Scott Allegretti, DDS, Provincetown Tourism Fund, David Schoolman Trust, and The Palette Fund.
