TCAN Announces Their Upcoming Events Including Appearances By Ferrick, Zuckerman & More

TCAN, The Center for the Arts in Natick, MA, has announced their upcoming events through May. Ranging from book signings to concerts, children's musicals to stand-up comedians, they are as follows:

Melissa Ferrick: The Next Big Thing 1/30
Appearing January 30th at 8PM, Melissa Ferrick could blow her own horn quite well--a flugelhorn to be exact--if she chose. Instead, she expresses her creative spirit with an acoustic guitar.

Since the early 1990s, the singer-songwriter from New England has compiled a string of sonically strong, lyrically rich studio albums. Her widely praised 2006 album In the Eyes of Strangers fulfilled the rock 'n' roll essence that Ferrick has long harbored.

But just when it seemed she would take a plunge into a more layered, instrumentally diverse sound, she produced perhaps her most intimate, stripped-down album, Goodbye Youth. Its release will certainly fuel the enthusiasm for her music, and further drive the passion she brings to her live shows.

Erin Dionne Celebrates and Signs Second Novel 1/28
Framingham author Erin Dionne will celebrate publication of her second novel, "The Total Tragedy of a Girl Named Hamlet,' at a book release party and signing at TCAN. Formerly from Natick, Erin wrote most of her first book in the hallowEd Halls of the Morse Institute Library! Jan 28, 7-9pm.

Mark Nizer: Expect the Impossible 1/31
Original comedy, world class juggling , movement, music and technology, has made Mark's performance one of the most popular corporate and theatrical events in the entertainment market today. Whether it's 5 ping pong balls being thrown 20 feet in the air using only his mouth; or juggling a burning propane tank, a running electric carving knife and a 16 pound bowling ball, you'll never know what is possible until you see for yourself. There are still seats available for Mark Nizer's comedy juggling performance Sun Jan 31, 2pm.

George McCann Band 2/13

Time Stands Still: Chris Smither at his best

Natalia Zuckerman and The Paper Raincoat
The Globe calls Natalia Zuckerman "a noteworthy folk-pop songstress and fleet-fingered guitarist (who) weaves clean and curvy country vocals into crisp folk-rock melodies." The Paper Raincoat is the imaginative collaboration of Brooklyn songwriters Amber Rubarth and Alex Wong that brings to life a colorful world teeming with compelling characters, dream-like storylines, and metaphorical narratives. Jimmy Tingle
Drawing on 25 years of comedic insight, outrage and commentary, nationally-known comedian Jimmy Tingle presents his topical, timeless, thought-provoking and political reflections on life. Sat Feb 6, 8pm.

Walnut Hill presents The Brand New Kid, The Musical
Lazlo begins a new school with a funny accent, crazy hair and foreign ways that make him the target of ridicule. But only Ellie McSnelly, who has her own issues with humorous variations of her last name, decides to take a chance and get to know the new kid. Based on the book by Katie Couric. Sat Feb 6, 11am.

Musical Theatre for February Vacation: 'The Emperor's New Clothes'
In 'The Emperor's New Clothes,' children find out how an emperor who cares more about clothes than people learns a lesson from his most humble subjects. Feb 15-19, 9am-3pm for ages 4-10.

TCAN provides a cultural center to the MetroWest Boston region, where national and emerging artists present performances, literary events, and art exhibitions in an environment that brings together individuals and families, children and seniors.
