Stoneham Theatre's production of Marathon tells the story of Mario, played by Mike Bash and Steve, played by Ben Chase who embark on what will be the most difficult run of their lives, but as the run progresses the casual outing becomes something darker. It becomes more than just marathon training; it becomes a test. The show is written by Edoardo Erba, adapted by Israel Horovitz and directed by Josiah George. It's part of Stoneham Theatre's Emerging Stages series, which assists emerging artists in the development of new work and offers audiences of greater Boston more opportunities to experience new or unfamiliar scripts.

This piece was produced in Stoneham Theatre's Emerging Stages season in 2003 and is making a triumphant comeback to coincide with The Run for Stoneham Theatre. The Run for Stoneham
Theatre is a marathon campaign in which Stoneham Theatre's Artistic Director, Weylin Symes and
General Manager, Matt Chapuran will be joining 3 others in running the Boston Marathon on April
19th in support of Stoneham Theatre, the American Heart Association, and in honor of a brother,
brother-in-law, friend and colleague who passed away last year from a heart attack.

The show features a cast of only two in which both characters are running on stage for the entirety of the play. Director Josiah George says, "Not being a runner myself, I was concerned that the actors would have the physical stamina to maintain running the entire show while talking, but we found two actors who are more than up to the task. Israel Horovitz has done a wonderful translation of Erba's script that really captures the way two regular guys who run together would talk. The conversation feels organic and thoughts flow naturally. This allows the actors to lose themselves in the dialogue and lulls the audience into thinking this is just a show about two guys running, which it isn't."

There will be a special performance of Marathon, along with a carbo-loading dinner with the five
Boston Marathon runners on Wednesday, April 14th. Dinner will begin at 6pm and the performance
will begin at 7:30pm. Tickets are $45 for premium seating and $40 for standard seating. To book
your tickets to this special performance, please visit www.stonehamtheatre.org and click on "The Run for Stoneham Theatre."

Marathon features Lighting Design by Jen Rock, Scenic Design by Charlie Morgan, and Sound
Design by David Remedios.

Marathon runs Thursday, March 11 through Sunday, March 21 and runs concurrently with Stoneham Theatre's family friendly production of The Dinosaur Musical. Tickets are $25. Stoneham Theatre is located at 395 Main Street in Stoneham.
