Stoneham Theatre has announced that it has been nominated for four 2014 Elliot Norton Awards. Stoneham Theatre's 2013 production of Thoroughly Modern Millie received all four nods: Outstanding Musical Production, Outstanding Musical Performance by an Actress for Ephie Aardema (Millie), Outstanding Director for Ilyse Robbins, and Outstanding Ensemble.
The Elliot Norton Awards are named for the Boston theater critic Elliot Norton, who remained an active supporter of drama until his death in 2003 at the age of 100. For 48 years Mr. Norton was a drama critic for Boston newspapers as well as moderator of "Elliot Norton Reviews" on WGBH television. Since 1983 over a dozen Elliot Norton Awards are presented annually to outstanding theatrical productions, performers, directors and designers.
Director Ilyse Robbins is thrilled Thoroughly Modern Millie and Stoneham Theatre are being recognized. "This entire production was extremely special to me," Robbins shared. "The cast, crew, design team, and staff were the perfect storm. I was proud of them last spring and get to be proud of them all over again."
The 32nd Annual Elliot Norton Awards will be presented on Monday, May 19, 2014 at The Wheelock Family Theatre. For more information, visit www.nortonawardsboston.com.
