From May 6 through June 5, SpeakEasy Stage will proudly present the hilarious musical-within-a-comedy, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.
Featuring music & lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, and a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE begins when a die-hard musical theatre fan plays a favorite cast album on his turntable, and the show magically bursts to life in his living room. Instantly he is immersed in the hilarious tale of a celebrity bride and her uproarious wedding day in a show that pays tribute to American musicals of the Jazz Age.
Popular Boston actress Karen MacDonald will star as the Drowsy Chaperone in the SpeakEasy production, which will also feature Thomas Derrah as Aldolpho, Will McGarrahan as Man in Chair, McCaela Donovan as Janet Van De Graaff, Kerry A. Dowling as Mrs. Tottendale, and Robert Saoud as Underling.
Also featured in the SpeakEasy production are Tiffany Chalothorn, David Christensen, Michael Coup, Sarah Drake, Ryan Halsaver, Joe Longthorne, Alison McCartan, Nellanna,
Shawn Platzker, Brian Swasey, and J.T. Turner.
Longtime SpeakEasy collaborator David Connolly will both direct and choreograph THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, his first directing effort for SpeakEasy. David will be aided by musical director Nicholas James Connell and assistant choreographer Jerusha Aman.
The SpeakEasy design team includes Jenna McFarland Lord (scenic), Seth Bodie (costumes), Karen Perlow (lighting), Aaron Mack (sound), and Jonathan Maganzini (props). Victoria S. Coady is the Production Stage Manager and Ryan A. Anderson is the Assistant Stage Manager.
