South Shore Conservatory Presents Festival Blues Brunch & JRP Festival

Tickets are now on sale for South Shore Conservatory's (SSC) Festival Blues Brunch & JRP Festival on Sunday, September 24, with a variety of events and performances from 11 am to 6 pm, showcasing music throughout SSC's Hingham campus at One Conservatory Drive. This is the first of six musical events in the Conservatory's new SSC Jazz/Rock/Pop Series (JRP), sponsored by Chateau Edmus.

Massa Products Corporation is the JRP Festival Sponsor. Linda and Gerald Jones and Stephanie and Mark Minister are the Festival Blues Brunch sponsors.

The SSC JRP Series kicks off with the Festival Blues Brunch on the Jane Carr Amphitheater stage from 11 am to 1 pm. SSC's Festival Blues Brunch stars the Conservatory's very own SSC Blues Trio comprised of Anthony Geraci, piano, Chris Rathbun, bass and Ed Sorrentino, drums. The trio plays soothing blues tunes to serenade the audience as they enjoy a buffet style brunch. This is the perfect opportunity to kick back with family and friends while hearing some of the best Blues players around. ElLen Mackenzie Catering caters the hot and cold buffet brunch.

Following the brunch, the JRP Festival, sponsored by Massa Products Corporation, starts at 1 pm, as the musical lineup moves into Cox Hall. SSC vocalist Emily Browder Melville and collaborator/pianist Mark Shilansky, from Berklee College of Music, preseNT American Heart. This performance, with its folk/jazz adult contemporary vibe, features music close to the performers' hearts. The Ed Broms Quartet, at 2 pm, performs contemporary jazz originals in the spacious SSC lobby. At 3 pm, the Elan Mehler Trio plays jazz originals and standards with the delightful twist that only "jazzmaster" Mehler can accomplish!

From 4 to 6 pm, the JRP faculty presents Tangerine Trees and Marmalade Skies in celebration of the 50th anniversary release of the Beatle's Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. This performance, in which the faculty pays homage to the iconic album, takes place on the Carr Amphitheater stage. SSC's JRP faculty features new twists on familiar tunes as they make these songs their own.

South Shore Conservatory is committed to being an organization that welcomes the widest range of audience members possible - removing barriers to participation and welcoming everyone in, regardless of ability. SSC's Jane Carr Amphitheater completely updated its sound and lighting systems in 2015. Funding for this project was provided by the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund, a program of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, administered through a collaborative arrangement between MassDevelopment and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. SSC is grateful to the individuals who generously donated the matching funds required as part of this grant.

Other performances included in the new SSC Jazz/Rock/Pop Series include Jazz Coffee Break Concert on November 28, and in 2018 Jazz Brunch on March 25, JRP Festival Preview Event on May 11, JRP Spotlight Festival (student performances) on June 14, and Jazz/Rock/Pop at Evenings Under the Stars in July of 2018.

Tickets for Festival Blues Brunch and JRP Festival are $50, and tickets for JRP Festival only are $25. SSC students and children under three may attend the JRP Festival only for free. Non-SSC students pay $10 for JRP Festival only.
