Sherri James Buxton Performs with the Bob Shepherd Trio, 6/1

Sherri James Buxton and Friends, featuring the Bob Shepherd Trio, Charles Neville and Paul Green, is a live concert at The Colonial Theatre on June 1 at 8pm to benefit Community Resources for People with Autism. At 6pm there will be a pre-concert VIP reception in The Colonial Theatre lobby, catered by Shiro with wines from Kelly's Package Store. Those who purchase the VIP reception tickets will also be treated to pre-show entertainment by Dominic Annand on the piano.

Tickets to Sherri James Buxton and Friends are $35 or $50 for the show plus the VIP reception. Contact the Colonial Ticket Office at 111 South Street, Pittsfield by calling413-997-4444. Local favorite, Sherri James Buxton, returns to The Colonial Theatre for her third solo performance. From jazz and cabaret to Broadway and pop, her versatility and vocal technique will delight audiences. Sherri James Buxton got her first professional break at the age of seventeen when she was cast as The Girl in an off Broadway production of The Fantasticks. She was in the original Broadway production of Look to the Lilies and has performed at The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and Kansas City Starlight Theatre. Her musical theatre credits include Carousel, Oklahoma, Guys and Dolls, She Loves Me, Flower Drum Song and The King and I. As a recording artist for RCA, she recorded Sweet Talkin' Guy.

As a jazz singer, Sherri took part in the International workshop, Jazz in July, where she performed with Sheila Jordan and Billy Taylor. She has also appeared at the Pittsfield Jazz Festival and her jazz group, the Sherri James Buxton Trio, was the main attraction in the Cranwell Resort's Music Room supper club for several years.

In the Berkshires, Sherri has performed at The Colonial Theatre, Mission Bar and Tapas, Castle Street Café, Becket Arts Center and on the Smile with B-Mile TV show. She is on the voice faculty at the Berkshire Music School where she teaches the Adult Cabaret Workshops. Sherri directs the musical group Cabaret to Go and has appeared with them at The Colonial Theatre, Arrowhead, The Clark Art Museum, Berkshire Museum and The Norman Rockwell Museum.

Sherri is also a music specialist in the Central Berkshire Regional School District and is on the Colonial Theatre Education Committee. Sherri has a BME in music from Indiana University and a MEd from Cambridge College. Her article, "Look What These Kids Can Do: Teaching Music to Children with Autism" was published in the summer edition of Massachusetts Music News.

At the Colonial, Sherri will be accompanied by Bob Shepherd on the piano, Andy Wrba on the bass and Bill Chapman on the drums, members of the Craneville School Chorus will perform a Whitney Houston tribute, and there will be a children's art show in the lobby featuring work by Children on the Autism Spectrum from the Central Berkshire Regional School District, mounted by Jennifer Annand.

Grammy award winner, Charles Neville, of the famed Neville Brothers, has appeared at major festivals and clubs throughout the country. His repertoire on the saxophone includes jazz, rhythm & blues, and popular music. Paul Green, clarinetist extraordinaire, is equally at home playing Jazz, Classical and Klezmer music. Green is the co-director of "A Summer Celebration of Jewish Music" here in The Berkshires, and the Director of the "Jewish Jazz Project," and "Music and More." Show highlights will include a tribute to Whitney Houston and songs written by Cole Porter during his Berkshire years.
