Each year Shakespeare festivals around the globe celebrate the birthday of our greatest playwright with special events. Shakespeare & Company is proud to partake in the movement.
On Saturday, April 22 at 7pm, the Northeast Regional Tour will present William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in the Tina Packer playhouse. A reception with the cast will follow the performance.
"The Bard's birthday celebration is an event for the whole family," said Director Jonathan Croy. "With an exhilarating 90-minute performance, followed by a reception with the artists, and of course a slice of birthday cake, it is a great way to add a little magic and mischief to your evening."
A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of the Bard's most performed plays. The plot involves four lovers lost in the woods and a group of rude mechanicals who have set out to put on a play. Very quickly, they all become entangled in a dream world. The Fairy Kingdom is at odds, spells are cast and the devilish sprite Puck weaves his mischief amongst the mortals, but is all fair in love and war?
An illuminating and fun-filled experience for people of all ages to enjoy, A Midsummer Night's Dream is performed by six actors playing multiple roles. The performance is general admission and includes the birthday reception. Tickets are $10 for youths (ages 6-17), $20 for adults. Adult groups of 12 or more are eligible for our group discount of 20%. Tickets are available in advance from the Box Office at (413) 637-3353 or online at shakespeare.org. Tickets will also be available on the day of the performance.
Tickets for Shakespeare & Company's entire 2017 performance season are now on sale. Both the Tina Packer Playhouse and the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre are wheelchair accessible and hearing-aid assisted. For more information on our summer performance season visit www.shakespeare.org.
Each winter and spring, a team of Shakespeare & Company actors and teachers brings a 90-minute production of one of Shakespeare's plays to schools and theatre's throughout the Northeast, performing and teaching workshops. Though fully produced, this "Bare Bard" style production emphasizes language, pleasure in playing, and the relationship between the actors and the audience.
