Resting on our Laurels, with music co-written by local resident Joanne Patton, will be presented on June 24th at 4pm at Stage 284 Mainstage in Hamilton, directed by Myriam Cyr and Jay Pension.

When four young students from Mount Olympus discover they may not graduate and may miss the farewell college dance, they enlist Cupid's help. Will Zeus intercede in their favor? Filled with laughter and beautiful music reminiscent of the 1950's, this witty performance will be one THE ENTIRE FAMILY WILL LOVE!

Resting on our Laurels was originally written, composed and produced by the Sweet Briar College graduating class of 1952; North Shore resident, Joanne Holbrook Patton and Keir Henley, co-writers of the music, and Mollie McCurdy and Josephine Sibold, cowriters of the play. Sweet Briar is known, to this day, as one of the premiere women's colleges in the country. Since its inception, Sweet Briar has bucked the norm for the advancement of women while encouraging individual creativity and the arts. Resting on our Laurels is a fine example of the imaginativeness Sweet Briar fosters.

In 2015, American experienced a decline in popularity of single-sex education causing financial distress for the school. As Sweet Briar was preparing to close, a group of alumni rose up and insisted that the legacy of the school deserved a permanent place. The group raised money, reorganized leadership, and brought in a new president. Their efforts proved the school's mantra: "There's nothing that you cannot do." Sweet Briar College this year celebrates its 116th year.

Stage 284 truly is a hidden gem within the theatrical community. The theater company has become known for their incredible ability to transform small theater space into historically immersive environments. This performance will benefit Stage 284 at The Community House with a portion of ticket sales donated to Sweet Briar College in honor of their enduring contribution to women's education and the arts.
