UNDERPANTS STOLEN! SQUIRREL ON THE LOOSE! The Yard's Quality Time! Family Series presents puppeteer Bonnie Duncan who gets lost in her laundry basket as children go wild in SQUIRREL STOLE MY UNDERPANTS, playing Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at The Yard, 1 The Yard, Middle Road, Chilmark, MA 02535. Pay What you Can. Family Friendly Matinee. Registration Recommended.
Squirrel Stole My Underpants explores the delicate time in childhood when you desperately want to be a grown up but you still need your blanket to make you feel safe. The work features physical theater, puppetry, object manipulation, dance, and a giant pile of clothes to create a world that transforms in scale, color, texture, and time. Squirrel Stole My Underpants draws inspiration from the worlds of magical adventure tales: Alice in Wonderland; The Wizard of Oz; Where the Wild Things Are; and, a new story, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.
In this poignantly silly adventure tale for families, Sylvie is sent to the backyard to hang up the laundry. The moment her back is turned, a mischievous squirrel steals her favorite piece of clothing and runs off. When Sylvie gives chase, an entire world emerges from her laundry basket, and curious characters show her the way through mysterious lands. Will our lonely heroine rescue her underpants and discover the magic within herself? Join us on this adventure to find out!

Creator and performer Bonnie Duncan, has blended puppetry, dance, and physical theatre in surprising and delightful ways for the past 15 years. Her work has been described as "an artful world of silent dreams, mime, and dance" (Austin Live Theatre). Most recently, she has been working as one half of They Gottabee Secret Agents with Tim Gallagher. Their show, Poste Restante, has toured worldwide, and won "Best Touring Show of 2011," Austin, TX; Best of the Fringe, San Francisco, 2009; and a nomination for Most Innovative Show at Prague Fringe Festival. Prior to her work as a Secret Agent, Bonnie was a company member of Snappy Dance Theater for 8 years, performing sculptural, acrobatic dances internationally. Her movement was called "breathtakingly simple" and "delightfully crafty" by the Boston Globe.
Puppets! Original music! A Tiny Bit of Acrobatics! Adventure and Invention! The Gottabees started making super fun theater for families in 2013 with the creation of Squirrel Stole My Underpants and followed up with Lollipops for Breakfast in 2015. Since then they have sold out venues and inspired homemade puppet shows throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. Together with the musicians BrenDan Burns and Tony Leva and with the director Dan Milstein, Bonnie Duncan finds it deeply satisfying to create original physical theater for families to come together and giggle, gasp, sigh, and cheer for about 45 minutes. Their work has earned a Jim Henson Foundation family project grant and won the "Artistic Achievement Award" for Puppeteers of America's Northeast Region. Their work has been seen at the Center for Puppetry Arts (Atlanta, GA), La Mama E.T.C. (New York City), Detroit Institute of the Arts (Michigan), and Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland), among other venues and is, according to CBC News "likely to steal your heart."
This show was awarded a 2013 Jim Henson Foundation family project grant and was developed with the generous support of the Puppet Showplace Theater's Incubator program.
