Publick Theatre Boston (http://www.publicktheatre.com), a resident company of the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA), will present Tom Stoppard's The Real Inspector Hound September 2 - 25, 2010 (Previews are September 2 - 5) at the BCA Plaza Theatre, 539 Tremont Street, South End Boston.
Directed by the company's Artistic Director Diego Arciniegas, the cast includes Barlow Adamson (A Month in the Country, Huntington, Reckless, Speakeasy, Arms and the Man, Lyric, Table Manners, Gloucester) as Moon, William Gardiner (Arcadia/Troilus & Cressida, Publick, King Lear, Actor's Shakespeare Project) as Birdboot, Sheriden Thomas (The Porch, Stoneham Theatre, Angels in America part I& II, Dallas Theatre Center, Cherry Orchard, Playmakers Rep) as Mrs. Drudge, Danny Bryck (The Corn is Green, Huntington, The Donkey Show, A.R.T., Rock 'n' Roll, Huntington) as Simon Gascoyne, Anna Waldron (On the Verge, Nora Theatre Company, Blithe Spirit, Lyric Stage) as Felicity Cunningham, Georgia Lyman (White People, New Rep, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Lyric Stage) as Lady Cynthia Muldoon, Gabriel Kuttner (Speed-the-Plow, New Rep, Faith Healer, Travesties, Copenhagen, Publick Theatre Boston) as Major Magnus Muldoon, and Wayne Fritsche (A Civil War Christmas, Huntington Theatre Company, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Boston Theatreworks) as Inspector Hound.
Characters and conventions collide in Stoppard's layered and witty indictment of the English "whodunnit", merging murder mystery clichés with a satirical send up of insouciant newspaper critics that results in a hilarious cautionary tale for all who put their ego ahead of Art.
Moon and Birdboot, two mediocre theatre critics, have gone to review yet another murder mystery, set in the parlour of "charming but isolated" Muldoon Manor. When the fog rolls in, it becomes clear that more than one person has ulterior motives for being at the show. Reality and theatricality become intertwined - then indistinguishable - as doubt falls on whether or not a play, or the perfect murder, might be in progress.
Design team includes Dahlia Al-Habieli (Sets), Jeff Adelberg (Lights), Molly Trainer (Costumes), and John Doerschuk (Sound).
Performances are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 - Fridays at 8, Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm. Special Tickets are $20 (Previews Only) - $37.50. For more information and tickets, call 617-933-8600 or visit http://www.bostontheatrescene.com.
