Gloucester Stage Company presents the World Premiere of Israel Horovitz's Man In Snow from September 29 through October 23 at 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. Directed by Mr. Horovitz, the powerful and passionate Man In Snow follows David Kipling, recently retired and mourning the loss of his young son, as he re-visits Mt. McKinley in Alaska, a mountain he summited at age 25. He's not climbing, this visit. Instead, he is guiding a group of Japanese honeymooners who hope to conceive a child under the spell of the Northern Lights. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the cast in rehearsal below!

According to author and director Horovitz, "In 1997, I traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska to see a production of my play Barking Sharks. While in Fairbanks, there was an avalanche on nearby Mt McKinley. A man was trapped in his cabin under 30' of snow. He spent the last minutes of his life on a mobile phone, saying goodbye to his wife. This image haunted me, inspired me to write Man In Snow. In 1998, I wrote the original text of Man In Snow for BBC Radio 4. I invented everything in the play except for the single image of a man buried in snow saying goodbye to his wife. My radio-play was recorded in London (Winter 2000) with me playing the lead role opposite Marcia Warren, who gave an astounding performance as my radio-wife. The BBC production of Man In Snow. won the 2000 SONY Radio Academy Award. A dozen years later, my original radio script of Man In Snow (42 minutes long) was produced on stage at Teatro Stabile in Italy by my own little theatre company (Compagnia Horovitz-Paciotto) directed by my co-artistic director/partner-in-crime Andrea Paciotto. Inspired by Italian theatre-audiences' strong emotional reaction to the text, as well as Andrea's profoundly inventive stage-imagery, I set out to write an authentic, full-length stage-adaptation of my radio play. And here we are, nearly 20 years after my trip to Alaska, about to see the world premiere of my stage-play at Gloucester Stage. Everything in its own time."

The Man In Snow cast features Will Lyman as David Kipling; GSC veterans Sandra Shipley, Paul O'Brien and Francisco Solorzano; and GSC newcomers Ashley Risteen and Ron Nakahara. Immediately following its World Premiere at Gloucester Stage, Man In Snow will have its NYC premiere featuring the GSC cast at La MaMa in November, presented by La MaMa and Gloucester Stage in association with Barefoot Theatre and Compagnia Horovitz-Paciotto.

Israel Horovitz's Man In Snow runs September 29 through October 23 at Gloucester Stage. Single ticket prices are $28 to $38 with discounts available for Preview Performances, Cape Ann Residents, Senior Citizens and Patrons 25 years old and under.
