"My second full season will introduce RI audiences to the work of artists you haven't heard of yet, but will be watching for years to come," states Perishable Executive Artistic Director Vanessa Gilbert in a recent press release.  "Perishable's programming focuses on new performance that comes straight from the lab to you", Gilbert continued.

Perishable Theatre's 2008-2009 Season includes:

The 4th Fledgling Festival

August 7-August 17, Thursdays-Saturdays 8pm, Sundays at 3pm

"Perishable Theatre's Fledgling Festival is 4 and it promises to be an experimental theatre extravaganza! What's it is all about? Bringing new works from local, not so local artists and different performing art genres together.  Tickets are $10 each. Come once; get a return ticket for $5."

The 14th International Women's Playwriting Festival

October 2- November 2, Thursdays-Saturdays 8pm, Sundays at 3pm

"Don't miss the event that has launched women playwrights to Broadway, regional theatres, and numerous awards.  Three winning one-act scripts receive production and are presented alongside acts by local women performing artists.  Each performance includes a post show talk back. The 14th International Women's Playwriting Festival is dedicated to Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and RI resident, Paula Vogel."

World Premiere of Bad Money, by Meg Miroshnik, directed by Vanessa Gilbert

February 20-March 8, Thursdays-Saturdays 8pm, Sundays at 3pm

"25-year-old go-getter Agnetta is thrilled to be starting her new job as a VP for a booming multi-national corporation in an emerging market. But returning to work in her native country reveals mysteries about Agnetta's family and their shady relationship with the country's currency. Might Agnetta become her mother?  Will Agnetta close the deal?  Can you really go home again?   Meg Miroshnik's new play is a comedy about market forces, relative morality, and the ambivalence of globalization."

World Premiere  of The Thing That Ate My Brain... Almost, by Amy Lynn Budd, directed by Connie Crawford

April 24-May 10, Thursdays-Saturdays 8pm, Sundays at 3pm

"In 2002, dancer Amy Lynn Budd discovered she had been invaded.  By a brain tumor.  In this performance about the diagnosis of and subsequent living with a chronic genetic condition, the artist combines burlesque dance, puppetry, and the genre of 1960's sci-fi movies to affirm that creativity and curiosity are the best medicine."

The season will also include the "Now or Never….Ever Series", which is comprised of one-night showings of various performances.

"Blood From a Turnip" presents short form puppetry for adults in this twelve-year-old late night series.

"Live/Whirled", created by Perishable Artistic Director Vanessa Gilbert and Live/Whirled Music Director, mandolinist Marilynn Mair, this series is designed to present great music with an unexpected twist. Each concert features two different artists or groups who will each perform a set of their own music, and then combine forces for an on-the-spot jam session that can also include any audience member who brings an acoustic instrument along and wants to join in.

Performances take place at the Perishable Theatre, 95 Empire St., Providence, RI.

Ticket prices are $10 for previews, $20 general admission, with $15 discount tickets available for students, seniors and military. Perishable members pay only $10 per ticket.

Tickets are available through ArtTix online at www.arttixri.com or at (401) 621-6123
