?It would be easy to joke that because Payomet produced The Winter's Tale last season, it was a natural decision - or a seasonal one? - to produce A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DRAM this season, opening Saturday June 30 7:30pm Runs - Thursday, Friday & Saturday through August 11. The director, Kenneth Noel Mitchell, is the head of the NYU Actor's Studio and a founder of the Guthrie Theatre's BFA in Shakespeare program. He's also a visionary and one of the bright lights of the Shakespeare scene in the United States today.

And we're ecstatic to bring his vision to the stage at Payomet this summer. Asked to comment on the show, Kenneth had this to say: "Shakespeare is for all time, for the ages, and this summer we're getting very imaginative with Midsummer... letting it explode... BOOM! on Payomet's huge stage and the audience is going to experience more music and movement, pop and crackle.

Kenneth's interpretation of the text explores issues of gender identity and marriage equality, issues that speak to the community on the outer Cape, and beyond." The Payomet production of Midsummer heels to a more literal interpretation of Shakespeare's tender and sensual script, and is recommended for adults and children 14 years of age and older.

For younger children, Payomet's Education Director, Tessa Bry, is adapting the same show, with the same cast, into a 45 minute "BillyShakes" production of Midsummer which will run every Friday at 5:00 p.m. beginning Fri, July 13. And at the end of the BillyShakes version of Midsummer, the entire cast takes the stage for a 10-minute Q & A with the kids and members of the audience. When you come to either version of Midsummer, you'll see a cast of ten sparkling young professional actors, several of whom have appeared in our staging of The Winter's Tale last year. They include: Ben Griessmeyer Ruby Wolf Robin Russell Tessa Bry Will Sturdivant* Jake Ford AMANDA FULLER Liz Pryce Davies Spencer Bazzano Ryan Underbakke *appearing by agreement with Actors Equity Association
