Carol and Martin return to an unnamed Western city after six years of working with a Doctors Without Borders-like organization in an unnamed African country. They reunite with old friends Liz and Frank who have, more conventionally, bought a house and had a baby. They're doctors too, but with very clearly defined borders.
The evening spirals into a post-colonial version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
Schimmelpfennig uses his dark humor and stylistically inventive approach to explore the West's uneasy relationship to the AIDS crisis in Africa.
