Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, Mass., presents the Musical Theatre Lab world premiere new musical, Broadway BounTy Hunter, running from tonight, August 12, through September 4, 2016. The Press Opening is August 19 at 7:30pm.
Inspired by the Blaxploitation movies of the 1970s (think Shaft), this exciting new musical follows down-on-her-luck actor Annie (SAG Award Winner and Broadway veteran Annie Golden) as she's asked to become a bounTy Hunter and capture a South American drug lord. With a score rich with R&B and Funk (and a splash of '80s Rock 'n' Roll), the musical follows a woman of a certain age as she tries to find the inner strength she needs to save theatre and realize her true badass identity.
Founded in 2006, the BSC Musical Theatre Lab is overseen by Artistic Director JuliAnne Boyd and Artistic Producer William Finn.
Broadway BounTy Hunter features music and lyrics by Joe Iconis (Be More Chill, The Black Suits, Bloodsong of Love), book by Joe Iconis, Lance Rubin (author of Denton Little's Deathdate) and Jason SweetTooth Williams (Off-Broadway: Once Upon A Mattress), choreography by Jeffrey Page (Broadway's Violet), and direction by Leah C. Gardiner (BSC Veils). Joel Waggoner (BSC Presto Change-O, Southern Comfort) serves as music director.
Broadway BounTy Hunter stars SAG Award winner Annie Golden (TV's Orange is the New Black, Broadway's Violet, The Full Monty) as "Annie," Broadway veteran Jeff McCarthy (Broadway's Urinetown; BSC Man of La Mancha) as "Mac Roundtree," and features Alan H. Green (BSC Romance in Hard Times) and Scott Watanabe (Broadway's Allegiance), along with Badia Farha, Kourtney Keitt, Anastacia McCleskey, Jamie Patterson, Porsha Putney, George Salazar, Shannon Tyo, and Jason Veasey.
The production features sets by Timothy Mackabee, lights by Eric Southern, costumes by Bobby Frederick Tilley, and sound by Josh Millican. Music supervision and orchestrations are by Charlie Rosen. Production stage manager is E. Sara Barnes.

Barrington Stage Company, a professional award-winning Equity regional theatre located in the heart of the Berkshires, in Pittsfield, MA, was co-founded in 1995 by Artistic Director JuliAnne Boyd. Barrington Stage's mission is three-fold: to present top-notch, compelling work; to develop new plays and musicals; and to find fresh, bold ways to bringing new audiences into the theatre-especially young people. Barrington Stage garnered national attention in 2004 when it premiered William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin's musical hit The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which later transferred to Broadway, where it won two Tony Awards. In 2009/2010 Barrington Stage produced the world premiere of Mark St. Germain's Freud's Last Session, which later moved Off-Broadway and played for two years. St. Germain's Becoming Dr. Ruth (which premiered at BSC as Dr. Ruth, All the Way in 2012) played Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre in fall 2013. BSC's all-time record-breaking musical, On the Town, originally presented in 2013, opened on Broadway in 2014 with BSC as a co-producer, where it was nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival. Barrington Stage was named "Best Theatre Company" in Metroland's Best of the Capital Region 2009-2012, and was voted "Best Live Theatre" by The Berkshire Eagle readers in 2011, 2012, and 2015.
