Starring Ute Gfrerer (who performed in New Rep's Man of La Mancha), So Deep is the Night follows the life of Belinda, a vampire from the 1700s. Belinda laments her fate of being immortal, expressing her experiences through songs. In this cabaret-styled performance, Belinda takes you on a sensual journey from the Baroque era of England, to 19th century of Eastern Europe, to the roaring 20s of Berlin, and even Paris in the 1940s.

"We're thrilled to present this wonderful event with extraordinary singer/actor Ute Gfrerer," shares New Rep Artistic Director Jim Petosa. "Ute became part of the New Rep family during her time performing as Aldonza in our much-admired revival of Man of La Mancha in 2016. Her repertoire for this concert will showcase some extraordinary songs that highlight her engaging vocal rendering." "We're glad," shares New Rep Managing Director Harriet Sheets "to offer New Rep audiences these special events throughout our regular theater season. It's nice to switch things up and show off the talents of artists in our New Rep family."

Having given her American theater debut with Virginia Opera in a production of the Seven Deadly Sins, Austrian soprano Ute Gfrerer is considered to be one of the best interpreters of Kurt Weill's music. She has sung and recorded many of his works, including The Threepenny Opera, One Touch of Venus, Lady in the Dark, Marie Galante and The Seven Deadly Sins. After studying voice and acting in Los Angeles she has been a successful international soloist for the past three decades. Her career has brought her to major musical centers around the world, including the Zurich Opera, the Vienna Volksoper, the Barbican Hall in London, the NHK Hall in Tokyo, the Teatro National in Guatemala City, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the Cologne Philharmonie and the Herkulessaal in Munich, working under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Franz Welser-Moest, HK Gruber, and Thomas Hengelbrock. Her extensive repertory ranges from opera (Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni) to operetta (Adele in Die Fledermaus and Valencienne in The Merry Widow), musicals (Jesus Christ Superstar, My Fair Lady) as well as chansons and lieder. Ute Gfrerer is also known for her solo shows and cabaret programs where she channels stars like Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf.
