New Rep is pleased to close its third season of Downstage @ New Rep with Sam Shepard's Fool for Love. Downstage @ New Rep-Up Close, On The Edge-presents programming that is new, edgy, and controversial to audiences eager for a thought-provoking theatrical experience. Fool for Love opens to the press on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 3:00pm and plays through April 05, 2009 at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in the Black Box Theater.
"Sam Shepard is one of America's most prolific playwrights," says Rick Lombardo, New Rep's Producing Artistic Director. "His plays push the boundaries of playwriting and break traditional conventions. The intimate Black Box Theater is the perfect setting to stage his work. It provides the audience with the ability to experience Shepard's writing up-close, on a primal level."
Fool for Love will be directed by Bridget Kathleen O'Leary, New Rep's Artistic Associate, who recently directed Boys Of Winter, which received a 2008 IRNE Nomination for Best New Play.
Ms. O'Leary comments, "I am excited to be working with Stacy Fischer and Timothy John Smith. The chemistry between the two of these actors is phenomenal! I am also thrilled to be working with such a talented design team. We plan on transforming the Black Box Theater, so New Rep's audiences will experience it in a very new and exciting way. It will truly be up-close and on the edge."
Eddie stalks May two thousand four hundred and eighty miles to a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert in Sam Shepard's classic, Fool for Love. In this ugly and claustrophobic place, lust turns to violence as wild and buried passions are unearthed. Dark secrets are revealed in an explosive story of gripping jealousy, brutal betrayal, and the deepest kind of love.
