Boston audiences have the only opportunity to see Ted Neeley in his final appearance in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, when Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's record-breaking musical come to the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang TheatreSM. Starring Ted Neeley in the title role, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR will play five performances only, Friday May 7 through Sunday, May 9.

Ted Neeley's Golden Globe nominated performance as Jesus in the Norman Jewison film of SUPERSTAR created a sensation. While he has enjoyed a distinguished career in theatre throughout the world, appearing in diverse productions, from Hair to Samuel Beckett, Ted Neeley is internationally renowned for the title role in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is packed with hit songs including "I Don't Know How To Love Him," "Could We Start Again Please" and of course, "Superstar." Driving rock rhythms, energetic power chords, along with heart searing ballads all combine in Andrew Lloyd Webber's haunting and unforgettable score.

When JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR first appeared on Broadway in 1971, it was clear that the musical world would never be the same again. Nearly forty years later, this astonishing musical is back and is as fresh and gripping as ever, proving that no musical since has been able to touch audiences with quite the same impact or emotional intensity. Acclaimed as a theatrical triumph at the time of its premiere, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR has since attained the status of theatrical legend. JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is an epic retelling of the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Recounting the story of men and women driven to their fate by forces beyond their control, this unique musical remains as relevant, accessible, and compelling today as the day it was written.

Director Dallett Norris (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, South Pacific) says, "What could be better than having Ted Neeley, so grand in the film, on board as we delve into Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's brilliant musical telling of this timeless story. Their idea of setting this tale in terms that immediately resonate with today's audiences is revolutionary. Here we are, twenty-one centuries later, and it is oh, so clear: we need the message of this story now more than ever."

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR plays at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre May 7 through 9, 2010. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM; Sunday at 7:00 PM; with matinees on Saturday at 2:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM.
