* Those auditioning for these roles will be required to do both a vocal audition and an acting audition using non-musical versions of the script to gauge the ability to act and take direction
MISS SAIGON demands a large and versatile cast - not only strong voices but performers in all disciplines.
Although the script predominantly calls for a Vietnamese cast we will obviously need to be creative - "Asian" cast members should have an exotic look that can give the illusion of being Asian without the use of cliché and out dated make-up techniques.
The bar-girls and strippers, are sensual, and both sexually and physically aggressive. This does not mean crude or vulgar to the extreme. They will be dressed in nothing more revealing than a 60s style bikini - basically a two-piece bathing suit.
At its core the play tells the story of American Marines and the Saigon/Bangkok sex trade therefore the language and situations in the script are adult in nature and can be offensive to some. Please take this into consideration when deciding whether or not to audition.
Though the script is set in the last days of Saigon when military protocols were disintegrating marines are still marines and will be clean shaven.
