Marblehead School Of Ballet To Model Azarian Designs During Marblehead Art Walk ImageThe Marblehead School of Ballet (MSB) joins the town of Marblehead in celebrating the arts during Marblehead Art Walk. To mark the occasion, the MSB's dancers are modeling local artist Rosanne Azarian's stunning blends of art and textile designs of elegant, wearable fashion, including caftans, scarves, wraps and jackets. See the dancers model these works of art on Saturday, May 19 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. across from the studio, located at 115 Pleasant Street in Marblehead, in front of Marblehead Antiques.

While there, stop and find out more about the benefits of ballet and dance and the school's offerings and classes during its 46th anniversary. Speak with the artist, who has lived, worked, created and presented her art throughout the United States, about the inspiration for her designs.

"It is such a pleasure to see collaborations among a range of artists and art forms in a town like Marblehead. The Marblehead School of Ballet is pleased to join Marblehead Antiques in this arts showcase and have our dancers model artist Rosanne Azarian's designs during the walk," said Artistic Director Paula K. Shiff, recipient of Salem State University's 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts.

Azarian hand dyes and paints on silk and other natural fibers such as cotton and wool or blends of these fibers. She uses hand carved woodblocks or Japanese Shibori techniques in natural Indigo to create images and designs. Ombre techniques dyeing on silk are incorporated throughout the collection.

Celebrating its 46th year, the Marblehead School of Ballet, founded in 1971 by Paula K. Shiff, has earned a wide reputation for the excellence of its training and integrity of purpose. Classical ballet forms the core of teaching with particular emphasis on correct alignment and development of strength and agility. The sheer pleasure of dance and music is always central to the classroom experience.

The basic graded program for children includes classes in ballet technique with advanced work in repertoire and pointe. The school also offers a modern dance department, classes for young children in creative movement and classes in improvisation and technique for the older student. A full range of adult classes is offered.

MSB is home to the North Shore Civic Ballet Company (NSCB). The NSCB gives concert performances and a variety of educational programs for schools; all are suitable for different age groups and levels of development.
