Full casting has been announced for The Cape Playhouse's upcoming production of The Drowsy Chaperone, starring JoAnne Worley, that will play the Massachusetts venue June 30 - July 11, 2015.
Winner of 5 Tony Awards, The Drowsy Chaperone features music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert & Greg Morrison, and book by Bob Martin & Don McKellar. In the story, an eccentric musical theatre devotee plays the record album of his favorite musical for the audience, with ongoing wry commentary: a fictional show called The Drowsy Chaperone, a supposed hit of 1928. The musical comes alive in his apartment, which is transformed into the settings for the singing and dancing characters who appear in a tale of love and stardom.
Joining veteran stage and screen star JoAnne Worley as Mrs. Tottendale are Simon Jones (The Hitchhiker's Guid to the Galaxy, Blithe Spirit) as the Man in the Chair, Michele Ragusa (Young Frankenstein, Ragtime) as The Drowsy Chaperone, Julie Kavanagh (La Cage aux Folles) as Janet, Craig Laurie (Jersey Boys, Forbidden Broadway) as Aldolpho, Danny Gardner (Encores! Lady, Be Good, White Christmas) as Robert, Bill Nolte (La Cage aux Folles, The Producers) as Feldzieg, Kristen Mengelkoch (Forbidden Broadway) as Kitty, James Dybas (The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sunset Blvd.) as Underling, John Scacchetti (Gypsy) as George, Ben Liebert (Wicked) and Elliott Mattox as the Gangsters, Dan'yelle Williamson (Memphis, The Lion King) as Trix, with Karen Hyland (Ghost, Scandalous), Lauren Kadel (Young Frankenstein), and Gus Cuddy.
The Drowsy Chaperone is directed by Pamela Hunt with choreography by Shea Sullivan, musical direction by Michael Rice, set design by Nicholas Dorr, costume designs by Jose Rivera, and lighting by Erik Fox.
