Acclaimed New York based singer/songwriter Jeremy Schonfeld will take the stage at Boston University's GSU Conference Auditorium on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 8:00pm in collaboration with Boston University's premiere musical theatre group, BU on Broadway. With music from 37 Notebooks, Drift, and other upcoming projects, the solo piano concert features special guest Amy Spanger. The concert will also feature students from BU On Broadway who auditioned for the concert via YouTube, who will collaborate with Schonfeld and Spanger to perform material in the end-of-the-semester concert.
Hailed by The New York Times as a blend of
Jonathan Larson and
Billy Joel, Schonfeld's singular blend of tuneful pop, hard-edged rock, gospel, soul and blues has made him one of today's most sought after musical theater composers. The recent benefit concert of Drift, directed by
Lauren Kennedy, boasted the talents of
Adam Pascal,
Terrence Mann,
Jarrod Emick, and
Adam Kantor, among others. The recently released album, 37 Notebooks, features some of Broadway's hottest vocal talents, including:
Shoshana Bean,
Lauren Kennedy,
Julia Murney,
Kate Shindle,
Amy Spanger, and
Tracie Thoms, among others. Early reviews of the album herald it as a collection of "songs that play together like some kind of musical of the mind" (Blogcritics Magazine) ... "a head above most musicians out there today" (Pop Stars Plus) ..."playful and adventurous ... offer(ing) every fan of strong songwriting [something] that they can attach themselves to" (Are You On Something.com)... and "easy to get drawn into these heartfelt pieces" (Parasites & Sycophants).
As a solo performer, Schonfeld's recent engagements include Birdland, Joe's Pub, BB King's; ArsNova; Lincoln Center; Juilliard Opera Theater;
Symphony Space; CBGBs; Southpaw; The Zipper Theater; and opening for
James Taylor.
Boston University On Broadway (OB) is BU's premiere musical theatre organization, dedicated to bringing quality musical productions and theatre-related events to the Boston University community. Founded in 1994, OB has become a fixture of artistic life on campus, putting on a variety of shows that have ranged from Broadway classics (
West Side Story, Chicago, Cabaret) to the edgy and the avant-garde (The Last Five Years, Rocky Horror Picture Show Live!, Reefer Madness). In addition to these outstanding productions, the entirely student-run organization offers countless opportunities to become involved, including open mic nights, trips to shows, and collaborative events with other theatre and music groups on campus.
