Indie Maverick and major label veteran Melissa Ferrick is an accomplished singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has shared stages with artists as wide-ranging as Bob Dylan, Paul Westerberg, Weezer and Ani DiFranco. She has released sixteen albums over the past eighteen years, including Everything I Need, which was named Album of the Year by the Gay and Lesbian American Music Association. On September 3rd and 4th she will make a special return to The Art House in Provincetown, MA. For tickets please visit www.ptownarthouse.com or call 508-487-9222.
Melissa Ferrick performs over 150 shows a year - often for audiences of 7,500 or more. Her extraordinarily passionate, grassroots fan base began twenty years ago when she opened for British rocker Morrissey, and has grown into one of the most loyal followings in recent indie memory. With songs that, as CMJ noted, "cut to the bone thanks to their truthful, personal viewpoints," the native New Englander is a powerhouse vocalist/guitarist who has steadily released indie projects since her prior stints on Atlantic and W.A.R.? Records. She is a six-time Boston Music Award and GLAMA Winner who just inked a 3-album deal with MPress Records. A passionate Out artist with a devoted LGBT following, Ferrick goes to great lengths to be accessible to fans, and is beloved for her magnetic personality, fierce honesty and lightning-speed rhythm guitar style. She toured with fellow folk-rocker Ani DiFranco this fall and appeared at this year's South by Southwest music festival in Austin, TX.
Her last-second addition as a support act for Morrissey in 1991 was the big break that not only led to more dates with the popular British rock crooner, but also laid the foundation for Ferrick's reputation as a dynamic live act. A recording contract with Atlantic Records followed in 1993, as did her debut album, Massive Blur. The album garnered glowing reviews, as did her sophomore effort two years later, Willing to Wait. Now, seventeen years and fourteen albums later, Ferrick's new label MPress Records will nationally release her first studio album in five years Still Right Here on September 13th, featuring guest vocals by Ani DiFranco and an appearance by guitar virtuoso Kaki King. After a stellar turn at The Art House over Memorial Day weekend, the venue is proud to welcome Melissa Ferrick back to Provincetown by popular demand to close out the regular summer season on a high note!
