After four years of sold-out showcase sketch shows, ImprovBoston welcomes back the fifth annual Best of Boston Sketch Comedy, a celebration featuring Boston's best-known indie scripted comedy groups. Audiences will see highlights from local sketch troupes Floodward, Friend Club, Hunk House, Klondike 237, Mister Bismuth, Terrible People, Vitamin Snake, The Voices in Our Heads, and World of Hurt at the Best of Boston Sketch Comedy, which runs every Friday on two stages from September 29th through October 13th at ImprovBoston.
ImprovBoston regularly features sketch revues (think Saturday Night Live, Key & Peele, or Kids in the Hall). In this annual showcase, audiences experience a veritable sampler platter of Boston's scripted comedy menu. "The Boston sketch scene has a diverse, fresh, and unique approach to comedy," says Kevin Quigley, who produces the showcase along with Dan Strom. "Some groups go for edgy, controversial yet polished, top-notch material. Others dabble in a style I like to call 'accessible esoteric' - completely off-the-wall - and a style reminiscent of the best of Saturday Night Live. We showcase all three styles in this show."
Selling out for the past four years, the showcase has become so popular that the New England comedy staple added a Second Stage. "We have so many talented sketch groups. Now we can also focus on solo sketch shows, not often seen in Boston comedy," explains Quigley.
Best of Boston Sketch Comedy shows run every Friday from September 29th through October 13th at 10PM at ImprovBoston at 40 Prospect Street in Cambridge. Tickets are $18 and are available at https://ibbestofbostonsketchcomedy.eventbrite.com.
