Coming in ahead of March Madness, College comedians are taking over ImprovBoston at the end of the month. From Thursday, February 21-Saturday, February 23, college students will be performing on both stages at ImprovBoston for the annual College Comedy Fest and Beanpot Tournament. Tickets for shows cost $12-$18 and are available online at www.improvboston.com. ImprovBoston is located at 40 Prospect Street.
Last year, the festival expanded to include showcase shows and the competition for the college teams. Each showcase slot will have two college teams performing with an ImprovBoston cast. The competition portion is broken up into four rounds for each team. During each competition performance, the teams accumulate points. The three highest scoring teams advance to the final round.
Each team has a unique skill and format. One includes CCE: Committee for Creative Enactments from Boston College, which performs a murder-mystery long form. Other teams in the tournament include: Guerilla Improv (Worcester Polytechnic Institute), Improv on the Rocks (Western New England University), Liquid Fun (Boston University). NU&Improv'd (Northeastern University), Peapod Squad (Clark University), receSs (George Washington University), Seriously Bent (Suffolk University), Shenanigans! (Clark University), and The Sweaty-Toothed Madmen (Gordon College).
Northeastern University's NU&Improv'd are the returning champions and Clark University's Shenanigans! are the returning runners-up.
On top of performing, the college teams will have two workshops from ImprovBoston instructors and will attend a panel discussion on improv after college.
