New Repertory Theatre announces IN BETWEEN, written and performed by Ibrahim Miari, today, April 4 - 20, 2014. Performed in the Black Box Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, in Watertown, MA. Tickets are $36 and may be purchased by calling the box office at 617-923-8487 or online at newrep.org. Student, senior, and group discounts are available. The press performance will be Friday, April 4, 8:00pm.

"In Between comes from the very personal experiences of playwright and performer Ibrahim Miari," says Artistic Director, Jim Petosa. "What is extraordinary is his ability to extract comedy from absurd circumstances, allowing us to laugh at situations that, in the moment, seem dire."

"We're very happy to welcome Ibrahim to New Rep," says Managing Director, Harriet Sheets. "He is well known for his work in solo performance both locally and in his native Israel, and we're pleased to include In Between in our inaugural Next Rep Black Box Festival."

With humor, playwright and performer brahim Miari recalls his childhood in Acco, Israel. Son of a Palestinian-Muslim father and a Jewish-Israeli mother, Miari tells the story of his extraordinary upbringing, memories of his Jewish and Palestinian grandmothers, and war. When he chooses to marry a Jewish-American woman, he ultimately is caught again between deeply divided communities.

Based on the original workshop and staging by Christine Hamel.

IBRAHIM MIARI (Playwright/ Performer) makes his New Repertory Theatre debut. Other acting credits include Superior Donuts (Playhouse Theater, PA); The Fever Chart (2010 IRNE Nomination Best Solo Performer) and Arabian Nights (Underground Railway Theater); Crickets (Boston Theater Marathon); Round Trip to Monte Carlo (Playwrights' Platform Festival). Film and television credits include Water Dogs (MCS Films); Naz + Maalik (Pecking Wilds, LLC); and Brains On Trial with Alan Alda (PBS). Mr. Miari holds an MFA in Theater Education from Boston University. Originally from Israel, he resides in the Philadelphia area. He will appear in the David Gordon directed and choreographed Political Shenanigans: Dancing w/ Brecht & Eisler this winter.
