From October 14-23, the Independent Drama Society presents the IDS NEOFUTURIST PROJECT , two weekends of utterly raw and totally realistic theatre that suspend the suspension of disbelief.

Based on the groundbreaking new style of performance created by the self-proclaimed "Neofuturists" in Chicago, the Independent Drama Society's own NEOFUTURIST PROJECT demolishes the wall between actor and audience, and seeks to challenge the definition of theatre itself. With the goal of presenting 30 plays in the span of one hour, the Neofuturist show moves at breakneck speed, exploring subjects ranging from the political to the spiritual to the downright silly.

The production features entirely original work by the cast, which includes Zach Adler, Joe Gels, Kim Klasner, Alex LeBaron, Tooky Martin, Deirdre McAllister, Josh Michel, William Schuller, and Jonathan Braedley Welch.

"The best thing about the IDS NEOFUTURIST PROJECT is the honesty," says director and performer Joe Gels. "We aren't trying to convince you that we are someone else. We are ourselves, right now, with you. We have plays on everything from drinking, Duck Hunt, and children's television, to social and sexual politics. I have an amazing cast of genuinely interesting and talented people, and we can't wait to show you what we have written."

The IDS NEOFUTURIST PROJECT runs for two weeks in two locations. On Thursday 10/14, Friday 10/15, and Saturday 10/16, all performances are at 8pm at The Democracy Center, 45 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. Tickets for the first weekend are $10. On Thursday 10/21, Friday 10/22, Saturday 10/23, all performances are at 8pm at Boston Latin School, 78 Avenue Louis Pasteur, Boston, MA 02115. Tickets for the second weekend are $15. Tickets for both weekends can be purchased on http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/130717.

This event is a special project by the Independent Drama Society, a special production outside of the company's mainstage season. In its third season, a season of love and loathing, the Independent Drama Society explores how powerful emotions can inspire ordinary human beings to do the impossible--or cause their ultimate downfall. In August, with David Auburn's PROOF, IDS explored family ties and the bond between father and daughter. In September, transcendent passion bound lovers together in Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET. Greed and fear drive businessmen to take desperate action in the January production of David Mamet's GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS. In April, true love keeps lovers together in the heart-rending afterlife of Sarah Ruhl's EURYDICE.

The Independent Drama Society is a not-for-profit company dedicated to upholding the values of openness and collaboration in order to produce excellent and enjoyable theatre. Through providing the Boston community with unique and inclusive artistic opportunities, such as exclusively open call auditions and the chance to direct full-scale productions, IDS seeks to involve all regardless of training or experience, and to be a home for anyone with a passion for theatre.
