Hunter Foster will star with Natascia Diaz in Kiss of the Spider Woman, playing the role of the movie-loving and imaginative gay-prisoner Molina at Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA. Kiss of the Spider Woman, opening March 11, is one of the three main stage productions featured in Signature's national Kander & Ebb Celebration.
Foster originated the role of Bobby Strong in Urinetown for which he received Outer Critic and Lucille Lortel Award nominations. For his performance in the 2003 Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors, Foster was nominated for a Tony and a Drama Desk Award. He recently starred as Dr. Frankenstein in the Off-Broadway production of Frankenstein, a New Musical. Other recent credits include Leo Bloom in Broadway's The Producers, Ben in Modern Orthodox, and Ensign Pulver in Mister Roberts at the Kennedy Center. In addition to his work as an actor and singer, Foster penned the book for the 2001 musical Summer of '42, recently seen at Bethesda's Roundhouse Theatre and previously presented Off-Broadway. He recently finished co-writing a musical adaptation of the hit film Bonnie and Clyde.
Signature Theatre's creative team for The Kiss of the Spider Woman will include stage director Erich Schaeffer, Signature Artistic Associates choreographer Karma Camp, music director Jon Kalbfleisch, and costume designer Anne Kennedy; set designer Adam Koch, and sound designer Matt Rowe.
Signature Theatre is saluting John Kander and Fred Ebb in a four-month festival, March - June 2008. In addition to Kiss of the Spider Woman, the celebration will feature the East Coast premiere of The Visit starring Chita Rivera and George Hearn, the rarely produced work The Happy Time, Tony-nominated artist Karen Akers' cabaret show "First You Dream: The Songs of Kander & Ebb," and other events to be announced.
