Legendary South African Trumpeter Hugh Masekela will perform at the 2007 Tanglewood Jazz Festival on Friday, August 31, 2007.

Masekela is well known for his hit single "Grazin' in the Grass," and continues to demonstrate extraordinary growth and versatility in his music.  A lifelong activist and supporter of anti apartheid leader, Nelson Mandela, Masekela also founded a music school and record label to benefit South African youth.

In 1988 Masekela collaborated with Mbongeni Ngema to create and arrange the score for Sarifina!, which was nominated  for 4 TONY awards, along with a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Music.

Other performers at the Jazz Festival include Kevin Mahogany, Red Holloway, Cyrus Chestnut, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Romero Lubambo, Leny Adrade, and the Maria Schneider Orchestra.

There is still no word as to who will be Marian McPartland's guest for the taping of NPR's "Piano Jazz".

The Tangelwood Jazz Festival runs from August 31st - September 2. Tickets are available by calling SymphonyCharge at 888-266-1200 or online at www.tanglewood.org.
