For the final installment of its 5th milestone season, the Harbor Stage Company presents the New England Regional Premiere of The River. Performances begin Thursday, August 11th at the Harbor's iconic seaside theater and will play through Saturday, September 3rd.
Acclaimed playwright Jez Butterworth's haunting follow-up to his modern epic Jerusalem, the play offers both intimate drama and metaphysical mystery. When a man brings a woman to a remote fishing cabin for their first weekend away, their interactions prompt an eerie meditation on the addictive qualities of love.
Directed by Harbor co-founder Jonathan Fielding and featuring performances by fellow co-founders Stacy Fischer, Robert Kropf, and Brenda Withers, The River will pay homage to the Cape's visceral and metaphorical connections to fishing. Stage manager Katie Graves, lighting designer John Malinowski, set designer Sara C. Walsh, and technical director Evan Farley complete the resident creative team.
In keeping with the company's mission to produce great plays at fair prices for the right reason, and thanks to the support of The River sponsor Kathleen Nagle at Kinlin Grover Real Estate and 2016 season sponsor WOMR, single tickets to Harbor performances are set at $23 and are available at www.harborstage.org. The River's First Fridays Pay-What-You-Can performance on Friday, August 12th will help raise funds for the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, an important local non-profit dedicated to protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and for wildlife; half of the proceeds from the by-donation performance of The River will go towards supporting Mass Audubon's important work.
