The Harbor Stage Company, the artist-run ensemble that produces intrepid, live performance on the shores of Wellfleet Harbor, will celebrate their sixth season with another summer of ambitious, authentic theater.
The Harbor's 2017 season will open Thursday, June 15th with the New England premiere of Hannah Kenah's offbeat comedy of manners, Everything is Established. When a wealthy landowner dies, his mail-order bride and bewildered servants struggle to confront a disordered world. Punctuated by original live music, the piece will introduce Cape audiences to the dynamic language and physicality that's earned Kenah (Rude Mechs, Salvage Vanguard) a reputation as one of Austin, TX's most inventive playwright-performers. Harbor favorite
Alex Pollock (Northside Hollow, The Flick) will join a cast directed by co-founder Brenda Withers. Everything is Established will run through July 8th.
Next up will be the company's take on David Mamet's ferociously funny morality tale,
Glengarry Glen Ross. An unrelenting look at the vicious underbelly of masculinity and ambition, Glengarry follows of a group of middle-aged real estate salesmen as they jockey for commissions, leads, and personal standing. Artistic Director Robert Kropf will lead a cast of seven as Ricky Roma, Mamet's legendary antihero. The production is also set to include beloved Philadelphia actor William Zielinski (The Seafarer, Eventide). Glengarry Glen Ross will play from July 13th to August 5th.
Concluding the season will be Kropf's original adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's psychological masterpiece Persona. After a traumatized actress and her talkative nurse seek refuge in a seaside retreat, the women's growing relationship with the natural world- and with each other- prompts a minimalist exploration of identity, isolation, and intimacy. Featuring Withers and recent Harbor collaborator Jane Stiles O'Hara (The River), the World Premiere piece will bear the hallmarks of Kropf's distinctly visceral style. Persona will run from
August 10th through September 2nd and be directed by Kropf.
In keeping with the company's mission to present great plays at affordable prices for the right
reason, single tickets to their 2017 season are priced at $23 and will go on sale in April.
Three Play Subscriptions are available for $65 and the group will once again host a Pay-What-You-Can night on the First Friday of each production's run. More information on performance dates, donations, and individual ensemble members can be found at harborstage.org.
