The Harbor Stage Company, the artist-run ensemble that produces intrepid, live performance on the shores of Wellfleet Harbor, will launch an eighth season of ambitious, authentic theater.
The Harbor's 2019 season will open Thursday, June 13th with the World Premiere of
Carrie Barrett's winsome new play The Hermitage. Hilarious and absurd, this original comedy examines patronage and social position through the lens of a nouveau riche couple whose longing for the perfect house leads them to hire on a professional hermit. Harbor co-founder Jonathan Fielding will helm an ensemble that includes Artistic Director Robert Kropf, co-founder Brenda Withers, and Harbor favorites Robin Bloodworth (The Deer and the Antelope) and Alex Pollock (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?). The Hermitage will run through Saturday, July 20th.
Next up will be Kropf's invigorating new adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters. A whole-hearted look at simmering passions and elusive ambitions, this exhilarating version captures the exquisite ache and bittersweet beauty of a tightknit family navigating life in a provincial village. Kropf will direct and co-founder Stacy Fischer will lead a cast that includes Fielding, Withers, and celebrated Harbor collaborators Dennis Cunningham (The Weir), William Zelinski (Glengarry Glen Ross), and Ari Lew (The Weir). D'Arcy Dersham (Portland Stage, the Gamm) and Allison Zanolli (Lipstick Theatre) join the ensemble for their Harbor debuts. Three Sisters will play Thursday, July 25th through Sunday, September 1st.
Rounding out the season will be the Harbor's inaugural Staged Reading Series. Helmed by Withers, the series will feature pieces by contemporary writers, including Keith Reddin, Jason Rhyne, Lauren Yee, and Will Eno.
In keeping with the company's mission to present great plays at affordable prices for the right
reasons, and thanks to the generosity of season sponsors WOMR Community Radio and Kathleen Nagle at Kinlin Grover Real Estate, single tickets for the 2019 season will remain priced at $23 and will go on sale in May (Admission to Staged Readings will run $12). Season Subscriptions include tickets to both full productions and two staged readings and are currently available for $65. The group will once again host a Pay-What-You-Can night on the First Friday of each production's run. More information on schedules, donations, and individual ensemble members can be found at harborstage.org.
