Gloucester's 30th Anniversary Season to Include Charlie Brown, Sylvia, Magical Thinking and More

Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Eric C. Engel recently announced Gloucester Stage's 30th Anniversary Season. The 2009 Summer Playpass season features the return of actresses Lindsay Crouse, Nancy E. Carroll, Paula Plum and Karen MacDonald, actors Shelley Bolman, Robert Pemberton and Robert Walsh and Founding Artistic Director Israel Horovitz. The 30 year old theatre's five play professional Summer Playpass season includes a fun-filled musical for the whole family, classic comedy, thought provoking drama and the New England premiere of an Israel Horoviz Gloucester play developed here at the GSC. According to Engel, "This season we're celebrating a thirty year old love fest - with the city of Gloucester and with greater Boston audiences. With Shelley Bolman, Nancy Carroll, Lindsay Crouse, Karen MacDonald, Bob Pemberton, Paula Plum and Bob Walsh all returning, our artist roster rivals that of any theater in the country! The beginning of our season is about love, laughter and family and the latter half of our season reinforces our historical commitment to provocative and new work including a gripping play by Israel Horovitz developed at GSC over the past several years. We plan to continue our successful new play reading series as well. Details of the exciting new works will be announced soon." The 2009 schedule also includes two special two night only performance events featuring Rockport resident and award winning actress Nancy E. Carroll reviving her role of Joan Didion in The Year of Magical Thinking on July 12 & July 13; and former Rockette and A Chorus Line cast member Joanna Rush in her one woman show Asking For It on August 16 & August 17.

The Gloucester Stage 30th Anniversary season opens on Thursday, June 4 with the Broadway musical You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown which will be presented in celebration of Gloucester's Pathways For Children. You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown features a professional cast led by Shelley Bolman as Snoopy. Mr. Bolman returns to Gloucester Stage after two acclaimed performances in the 2008 season in Billy Bishop Goes to War and The Woman in Black. The performance schedule is Thursday, June 4 through Saturday, June 6 at 8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 10 through Saturday, June 13 at 8 p.m.; Wednesday, June 17 through Saturday, June 20 at 8 p.m., Saturday matinees on June 6, June 13 and June 20 at 3 p.m. & Sunday performances on June 7, June 14 and June 21 at 4 p.m. Special ticket prices for this delightful musical for the whole family only are $15 for Children 12 years old and under and $25 with Student ID.

July 2-July 19 Last of the Red Hot Lovers by Neil Simon

Karen MacDonald appears on stage in Gloucester this summer following her Gloucester Stage debut as the director of last season's The Woman in Black. The American Repertory Theatre actress will play all three female roles in Neil Simon's Last of the Red Hot Lovers. Gloucester Stage Artistic Associate David Zoffoli directs Simon's classic comedy about love, sex and seafood. The performance schedule for Last of the Red Hot Lovers is Thursday, July 2 at 8 p.m., Friday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. for a special performance followed by fireworks and Sunday, July 5 at 4 p.m.; Wednesday, July 8 through Saturday, July 11 at 8 p.m.; Wednesday, July 15 through Saturday, July 18 at 8 p.m., Saturday matinees on July 11 and July 18 at 3 p.m. & Sunday performances on July5, July 12 and July 19 at 4 p.m.

Ms. Carroll and Ms. Plum play two women who once shared the same man and who now are attempting to reconcile closure with clarity. Joanna Rush in Asking For It

For two performances only former Rockette and cast member of A Chorus Line Joanna Rush brings her largely autobiographical one woman show Asking For It to Gloucester Stage. The solo play directed by the Tony nominated director Lynne Taylor-Corbett had its New York debut in the New York International Fringe Festival. The special two night engagement of Asking For It is at Gloucester Stage on Sunday, August 16 and Monday, August 17 at 8:00 p.m.
