Immersive Productions and the Walmart Foundation. are joining forces to bring local teens from the South Shore YMCA Germantown Youth Center to experience the fright of Ghost Ship Harbor. On Saturday, October 29, 2016, 100 teens will embark on a journey of sheer terror, facing all the fear and fun Ghost Ship Harbor has to offer.
Each teen will have the opportunity to tour the haunted attraction and will be provided dinner and a Ghost Ship Harbor T-Shirt. The experience is being funded through a donation by Walmart Stores, Inc.
"The City of Quincy has welcomed Ghost Ship Harbor to its shores this year. We are thrilled to be part of the local community and look forward to being back here next year and for many years to come," said Matt DiRoberto, founder of Immersive Productions and Ghost Ship Harbor. "We are proud to partner with the Walmart Foundation on this initiative and to offer these teens the chance to experience what Ghost Ship Harbor is all about."
In addition to hosting the teens at Ghost Ship Harbor, Immersive Productions and the Walmart Foundation have donated $5,000 to the South Shore YMCA Germantown Neighborhood Center to help support the ongoing youth programs offered at the center.
"It can be tough for a kid in Germantown," said Kathy Quigley, executive director of the Germantown Neighborhood Center. "They live on a peninsula, and many don't have access to their own transportation. The opportunity to go to Ghost Ship Harbor represents more than just a fun time. It's a chance to get out of the normal routine and see something they might not otherwise without the help of this generous donation."
Kids of all ages are welcomed into the enrichment programs at the South Shore YMCA, giving them a safe place to go after school gets out. Older students can enroll in the Music Clubhouse and learn how to play instruments, sing and create their own recordings. Teens have access to mentoring programs to gain guidance on higher education options and job seeking. The Center also has an active food pantry and a new extension, a mobile food pantry that reaches out to those in need, and runs a series of self-esteem building courses for women, domestic violence counseling and more.
"The South Shore YMCA and its Germantown Neighborhood Center give underprivileged kids access to the types of opportunities that are taken for granted as a 'normal' part of growing up in other communities - things like having a safe place to go after school, music lessons, and mentoring that leads to better higher education and employment options," said Walmart Public Affairs Director Chris Buchanan. "The Walmart Foundation could not be more pleased to support this important work that improves the lives of people in communities our stores serve."
