Foothills tries to offer a varied course listing from term to term so that students have the opportunity to delve into different approaches to become well-rounded performers and individuals. Foothills Theatre is excited to offer new courses beginning Saturday, January 31, 2009. The courses for the 2009 winter session include:
Creating a Character
Ages 8-12 Saturdays 12-2
Start Date: Saturday January 31, 2009
End Date: Saturday March 21, 2009
This class is designed to develop the most basic of theatre building blocks; the character. Every piece of theatre requires a character to help relate the story to the audience. Like a good story teller, a trained actor needs to have a supply of tricks they can use to share their story with an audience. This class will use theatre games, principles and text to help discover different characters. There will be a focus on vocal production and technique, movement and character analysis. This is an ideal class for the beginner or the experienced performer to improve the quality of their work while expanding their own interpersonal skills. Parents and friends are invited for a showcase on the final class to see what their students have created.
Teen Scene Study
Ages 13-18 Saturdays 10-12
Start Date: Saturday January 31, 2009
End Date: Saturday March 21, 2009
This class is designed to allow students of all levels to work in small groups in order to develop their personal and collective acting techniques. It allows the students the time to focus on their moment to moment acting work, character relationships and character development in a way that they can not do on their own or while in the fast paced environment of putting on a play. The focus is on connection to fellow actors and how the other people and environment of a scene can effect how the text might be played. The principles learned in this class can be applied to any type of performance including monologues, musical theatre or even a boardroom presentation. The final class will allow the students an opportunity to share what they have learned with family and friends.
