In 1996 Fredi created the role of "Joanne Jefferson" in the smash hit musical RENT. The production won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama as well as four Antoinette Perry Awards, an Obie Award, the Drama Desk and the Golden Globe Awards for Best Musical of that year. She personally earned an Obie Award for her performance (in concert with the fantastic ensemble that made up the RENT cast), and a FANNY Award. Later she also toured nationally in The Lion King as "Rafiki."
On screen, Walker-Browne is set to appear in Rebecca Miller's upcoming film Maggie's Plan (in a scene with Ethan Hawke). She also appeared in SHOWTIME's Emmy Award Winning series THE BIG C alongside Laura Linney, Oliver Platt, Susan Sarandon, Alan Alda and Victor Garber. Fredi has also performed on TV in various soaps and Law & Order as well as commercials and voice-overs.
Fredi is also a model, having appeared twice in MODE magazine (a fashion magazine dedicated to plus sizes). She was also a model/spokesperson for Lane Bryant's Harlem store opening gala in the fall of 98. She has also been interviewed by 20/20 on the topic of women's body issues and beauty.
She is the Founder and President of Big Spoon Productions, which produces and directs screenplays and teleplays. She is also a voice instructor at The Music & Art Academy in Matawan, New Jersey, and teaches master classes and workshops across the country.
