The public is invited to join the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) for an afternoon of song and dance featuring the music of Broadway on Saturday, February 4, at 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas D. Mercer Auditorium, 224 Oak Street, Franklin. The FSPA performing troupes, and musical theater classes, dance companies and youth choir will present songs from classic and contemporary Broadway shows.
Musical numbers include “Crazier than You” from The Addams Family, “Many a New Day” from Oklahoma, “Truly Scrumptious” from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, “It’s All for the Best” from Godspell, “Put on Your Sunday Clothes” from Hello Dolly, “Brand New You” from Thirteen, and “I’ve Gotta Crow” from Peter Pan. FSPA’s Electric Youth will perform “Pinball Wizzard” from The Who’s Tommy as a preview of their upcoming debut concert on February 12 at Showcase Live in Foxboro.
FSPA’s musical theater performing troupes are cast each school year by audition. The members of Broadway Light, Broadway Bound, and BLT2 are triple threat performers who study music, dance and drama at FSPA. Curriculum for these students encompasses advanced work in ensemble singing, vocal and acting technique, and various disciplines of dance. The FSPA Musical Theater faculty includes Director Raye Lynn Mercer, Casey Andrade, Tracy Lane, Nick Paone, Kim Rezendes, Kellie Stamp and Hallie Wetzell.
All FSPA musical theater performances are accompanied by live music. The Broadway Showcase features Boston musicians Kenny Hadley on drums, bassist and arranger Mark Poniatowski, guitarist Mark White, and Raye Lynn Mercer on piano.
