ELECTRIC YOUTH Performs at Mechanics Hall May 23

Electric Youth will perform in concert at Worcester's Mechanics Hall on Sunday, May 23rd at 6:00 p.m. The final opportunity to see this professional ensemble of young singers and dancers before they embark on a month-long European concert tour June 18 - July 12. Trained at FSPA, The School of the New England Center for the Performing Arts in Franklin, Electric Youth is backed by an eight piece band of Boston's finest musicians. The Worcester program "Electric Youth - Past, Present and Future will feature EY 2010, several Electric Youth alumni and the "Future Shock" ensemble of future stars. Promoting and inspiring the performing arts among youth, Electric Youth shows offer exciting family entertainment with an extensive repertoire of pop, rock and Broadway music staged with dynamic choreography.

 

Raye Lynn Mercer, Executive Director of the New England Center for the Performing Arts and Director of Electric Youth's creative team notes, "The experience of playing to thousands of people with the feel of a rock concert is something we have enjoyed many times in Europe, and at our sold out performance at Patriots Place's Showcase Live in February, and we are certainly hoping to replicate that excitement at Mechanics Hall, both for the audience and the performers."

The group has an impressive resume of performances at internationally renowned venues including the Konzerthaus, Musikverein and Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria, San Remo's Ariston Theater and Villa Manin in Italy. Electric Youth has entertained at the Democratic National Convention, The Life Is Good Festival and Volvo Ocean Race in Boston. They have provided Fourth of July shows for the U.S. troops stationed in Italy at Camp Ederle, Camp Darby and Aviano Air Force Base. The members of Electric Youth are: Meghan Dean, 16, Matt Duhamel, 17, Ali Funkhouser, 13, Jill Gleason, 17, Galen Hancock, 16, Kerryn Reeve, 16, and Catherine Weiss, 16, of Franklin; Michael Egan, 16 of Hopkinton; Dan Harcourt, 17, and Katie Ryan, 16, of Millville; Ali McCurdy, 17, and Erica McLaughlin, 15, of Medfield; Samantha Terranova, 15, of Medway; Samantha Vita, 14 of Mansfield; Emily Harrington, 14, of Norfolk; Jacquie Hurley, 18, of North Attleboro; Corinne Falotico, 16, and Callie Liljeberg, 16, of Wrentham.

Electric Youth is accompanied in performance by an eight-piece show band of Boston area professionals including Director-pianist Raye Lynn Mercer, Kenny Hadley on drums, Mark Poniatowski on bass, Mark White on guitar, Walter Platt on trumpet, Jeff Hoyer on trombone, Ken Reid on baritone saxophone and Arnie Krakowsky on tenor saxophone. Arrangers for Electric Youth include Bill Brinkley, Platt, White and Rick Hammett under the direction of Mark Poniatowski.
