“The Dog Enchanted by the Divine View,” Tennessee Williams’ first version of “The Rose Tattoo,” will have its World Premiere on Tuesday, September 16 at 8:00 p.m. at the Boston Center for the Arts Plaza Theatre! Directed by David Kaplan, the play about a hot Sicilian widow on a date with a truck driver will feature noted Boston area actor Larry Coen and the original Tina from “Tony N’ Tina’s Wedding,” Nancy Cassaro. Scenery is by Sue Rees, costumes by Rita Ryack, and lighting by Megan Tracy.
The World Premiere performance of “The Dog Enchanted by the Divine View” in Boston is a benefit for the third annual Provincetown
Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, a celebration of the work, life and legacy of America’s great playwright,
Tennessee Williams. Featuring a dozen events, including live performances, tours and conversations with the actors, the Festival will take place Thursday, September 25 through Sunday, September 28, 2008 at various venues in Provincetown, Massachusetts. “The Dog Enchanted by the Divine View” will also be performed as part of the Festival programming.
Larry Coen received the 2007
Elliot Norton Award as "Outstanding Actor, Small/Midsize Theater" for his performances in 5 productions: “The Plexiglass Menagerie,” “Silent Night of the Lambs” (The Gold Dust Orphans), “Miss Witherspoon” (
Lyric Stage Company), “The Taming of the Shrew” (Commonwealth Shakespeare Company), and “Samurai 7.0” (Beau Jest Moving Theatre). He is Artistic Director of City Stage Co. of Boston, which provides free arts education programs and performances for low-income urban children and families. Nancy Cassaro is best known for conceiving the Off-Broadway hit “Tony N’ Tina’s Wedding,” where she also originated the role of the bride, Tina. Film and TV credits include Nip/Tuck, The Sopranos, Without a Trace, Dirt, Running with Scissors, Grounded for Life and Good Fellas.
David Kaplan is the curator and co-founder of the Provincetown
Tennessee Williams Theater Festival and the author of the book "
Tennessee Williams in Provincetown." Plays written by Williams and staged by Kaplan include the 2008 world premiere of "The Day on Which a Man Dies" in Chicago; last year's "The Traveling Company and The Chalky White Substance" at the
Tennessee Williams Festivals in New Orleans, Provincetown and Columbus, Mississippi.
