Internet sensation Team StarKid present The SPACE Tour (StarKid Precarious Auditory Concert Experience), featuring a cast of StarKid veterans performing hits from the company's acclaimed original comedy musicals A Very Potter Musical, A Very Potter Sequel, Me and My Dick, and Starship. The SPACE Tour opened to a sold out crowd of 1,700 at The Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor on Friday, November 4 and runs for a total of 21 performances across 15 cities, culminating at The Gramercy Theater in New York on Sunday, November 27.
Originally hailing from the University of Michigan, and now based in Chicago, Team StarKid is a true Cinderella story for the modern age. To date, StarKid has garnered over 100 million views and 200,000 subscribers on YouTube, 167,000 Facebook fans, and 80,000 Twitter followers worldwide, and captured the attention of national media such asEntertainment Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter, "Access Hollywood," "Entertainment Tonight," NPR, and MTV. Though located in Chicago, StarKid Productions remains committed to pioneering the internet as a new outlet for theatre distribution.
Appearing on The SPACE Tour is a cast of StarKid veterans including Jaime Lyn Beatty, Brian Holden, Lauren Lopez, Joey Richter, Dylan Saunders, Meredith Stepien and Joseph Walker. They are accompanied by a four-piece band of Charlene Kaye (guitar), Clark Baxtresser (keyboard), Mark Swiderski (drums), and Tomek Miernowski (bass). The tour is directed by Julia Albain, with choreography by Lauren Lopez, music direction by Clark Baxtresser, and production design by Corey Lubowich, with assistance from Sarah Petty. Singer/Songwriter Charlene Kaye appears as the opening act on all stops of the tour.
Darren Criss, star of the FOX hit series "Glee," will join his fellow StarKids for four total performances including two shows at the Boston House of Blues on Friday, November 25 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and two SOLD OUT shows at New York's Irving Plaza, Saturday, November 26 at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. Prior to his role as "Blaine Anderson" on "Glee," Criss was best-known to StarKid fans as "Harry Potter" in both A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel, for which he contributed to the musical scores. He also conceptualized the story and provided the music and lyrics for the company's most recent musical, Starship. Criss will make his Broadway debut as "J. Pierrepont Finch" in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, when he replaces Daniel Radcliffe for a limited three week engagement, January 3 – January 22, 2012.
The Gregory Brothers will appear for one performance at New York's Gramercy Theater, Sunday, November 27 at 4 p.m. (SOLD OUT). Best known as the creators of the YouTube series, "Auto-Tune the News," this unique music and comedy group includes Michael Gregory (drums/vocals), Andrew Rose Gregory (guitar/vocals), Evan Gregory on (keys/vocals), and Sarah Fullen Gregory (bass/vocals). The Gregory Brothers tour the country speaking at colleges, playing at rock and Comedy Clubs, and are in the process of making a pilot for Comedy Central. They have spoken at Google ZeitGeist, MacWorld, GEL, VidCon, Web 2.0 Expo, about how they combine music, technical savvy, and humor to reach millions. Their hit "The Bed Intruder Song" was the first YouTube video to cross over onto the Billboard Hot 100. The Gregory Brothers have also collaborated with T-Pain, Weezer, Joel Madden, Tosh.0, Adidas, NPR, Sony Electronics, Chipotle, "The Cleveland Show" and were featured on "The 83rd Annual Academy Awards." They are also the proud winners of two Webby Awards and were recipients of one of the inaugural Comedy Awards.
Tickets, priced from $22 to $35, are now available via Ticketmaster.com or LiveNation.com. VIP tickets, priced from $50 to $70 (sold out), include a pre-show meet and greet, tour poster, lanyard, and laminate. Tickets are general admission and priced based on individual venue.
