In a "first ring" suburb outside a midsize American city, Ben and Mary fire up the grill to welcome the new neighbors who've moved into the long-empty house next door. The fledgling friendship soon veers out of control, shattering the fragile hold that newly unemployed Ben and burgeoning alcoholic Mary have on their way of life. The quintessential American backyard party quickly turns into something more dangerous - and filled with potential.
Lisa D'Amour is a playwright and one half of PearlDamour, an OBIE-award winning interdisciplinary performance company she runs with Katie Pearl. Steppenwolf Theatre's production of D'Amour's Airline Highway will open on Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in April 2015. Detroit was originally produced by Steppenwolf Theater Company and subsequently produced by the National Theater/London and Playwrights Horizons. She is the recipient of the 2013 Doris Duke Artist Award in theatre. Lisa received her M.F.A. in playwriting from the University of Texas at Austin and is a New Dramatists alumni.
