Like most of us, Boston-area favorite and Stoneham native; Kathy St. George, fell in love with Judy Garland watching The Wizard of Oz on television. To this day, Garland continues to be St. George’s all-time favorite movie star. This month Kathy St. George pays tribute to Judy in her one-woman show, Dear Miss Garland.

“It’s like a love letter in songs,” St. George shared. “The show is a tribute to her songs, talent, and artistry. I never got to write Judy a fan letter so this show is my letter to her.”

Dear Miss Garland, a musical co-written by St. George and award-winning director, Scott Edmiston opens at Stoneham Theatre on Thursday, June 28th. Back by popular demand, Dear Miss Garland is a one-woman celebration of the life and career of the unforgettable Judy Garland. PArt Theatre, part concert and all entertainment, Kathy St. George brings Garland to life with a performance of her biggest hits and most intimate confessions.

This musical concert traces Garland’s life from her stage debut to her comeback concert at Carnegie Hall in 1961. In Act One, St. George shares her connection with Judy, explores Judy’s humor, and pays tribute to her movies. Act Two is an explosive musical tribute that includes favorites such as “The Trolley Song,” “The Man That Got Away,” “You Made Me Love You,” “Get Happy,” “Chicago,” and, of course, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

With a seven-piece band directed by Music Director Jim Rice, choreography by Ilyse Robbins, set design by Janie Howland, lighting by Karen Perlow, and costumes by Chip Schoonmaker .

Dear Miss Garland runs Thursday, June 28 through Sunday, July 22nd. Tickets are $44, $40 for seniors and $20 for students. Stoneham Theatre is located at 395 Main Street in Stoneham.
