Cape Rep Theatre will conclude its 25th Anniversary Season on December 5 with the closing of the Musical Comedy Smash The Drowsy Chaperone. Keith Coughlin will direct and choreograph. Scott Storr will serve as musical director.

A man, a bit lonely and weary of the modern world, beats the blues by dropping the needle on his favorite vinyl recording, a 1928 smash hit musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. Its star, Janet Van De Graaff, steps into his living room with her handsome fiance, her tipsy chaperone, her producer, an aviatrix, and two gangsters disguised as chefs and they play out a twisted plot employing a shameless raft of theatrical devices including mistaken identity, spit takes, tap dancing, show-stoppers, flagrant upstaging, and rousing anthems. A homage to the Broadway musical, The Drowsy Chaperone won 4 Drama Desk and 5 Tony Awards in 2006, including Best Book and Best Original Score.

The design team includes set by Ryan McGettigan, lighting by Herrick Goldman and Susan Nicholson, costumes by Robin McLaughlin, props by Mary Fritz. Heather Lannen is the production stage manager.

Heading the cast as Man in Chair is popular director, designer, playwright and actor Art Devine along side his wife, Cape Rep resident director Maura Hanlon as the title character. The remainder of the cast boasts a slew of veteran Cape Rep performers including Equity actors Christina Morrell and Ethan Paulini as well as Ashlea Potts, Jared Hagan, Troy Armand Barboza, Courtney Nolan Smith, Joan McFarland, Andrew Cranin and Martha Paquin. New to the Cape Rep stage are actors Sean K. Maddox, Morgan West and Donald Loupe.

The December 5 performance will mark the 3rd Annual Cape Rep/HJT Scholarship Fund benefit performance. The Road Ahead Party will follow to mark the close of our 25th Anniversary Season and celebrate the next generation of artists.

More 25th Anniversary events will be announced as the season continues. Details are available by calling 508.896.1888.
