Cape Rep Theatre presents Summer Starlight, an evening to remember, Sunday, August 6, with guest of honor, Tony Award winning theatre, film and television actor, Michael Cerveris. Tickets for this gala celebration benefiting Cape Rep Theatre include an outdoor party with hors d'oeuvres and live jazz, a performance and audience discussion with Mr. Cerveris in the Indoor Theater emceed by filmmaker Amber Edwards, and a champagne and dessert finale with Michael Cerveris under the stars. About Michael Cerveris

Michael Cerveris is a two time Tony award winning stage, film & screen actor. Raised in West Virginia, he divides his time between NYC and a home in New Orleans' Treme neighborhood. After graduating from Yale he spent a few years criss-crossing the country in regional theaters until finding his footing in NY's downtown theater scene. A job playing English guitarist Ian Ware on the tv series "Fame" took him to LA, where he eventually resumed his regional theater career on the west coast, ultimately creating the role of Tommy in the Who's Tommy, a job that returned him to NY and his Broadway debut & first of 5 Tony nominations as well as the Theater World Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk nominations. In the years since, Cerveris has been hailed as "Broadway's most versatile leading man", in roles running from Shakespeare to new plays, musical theater to modern classics, including Stephen Sondheim's Assassins, Titanic, In The Next Room, King Lear with Kevin Kline, LoveMusik with Donna Murphy, Hedda Gabler with Mary Louise Parker, Cymbeline with Martha Plimpton, Evita with Ricky Martin, Hedwig in NY, LA & London's West End & most recently, the 2015 Tony award winner for Best Musical, Fun Home. Cerveris has performed concerts at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Preservation Hall, New Orleans' Jazz Fest, and the Kennedy Center as well as tours of the US & UK as guitarist for punk icon Bob Mould.

This fall, Cerveris will return to television screens in Amazon's The Tick and Steven Soderberg's Mosaic for HBO. He was most recently seen on tv as State's Attorney James Castro on CBS' "The Good Wife", and spent 5 years creating the mysterious September for JJ Abrams' "Fringe" tv series & 3 seasons as Mervin Frey on HBO's "Treme". It was while shooting Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant as the 300 pound Mr. Tiny, that Cerveris began a deep commitment to New Orleans. Over the years, he has taught at NOCCA & Lusher, built homes in Musicians' Village & Araby with Habitat and performed at Le Petit Theatre in Paul Sanchez's Nine Lives, at the Shadowbox Theater in Kimberly Kaye's A Christmassacre Story at the New Orleans Fringe Festival and been an avid supporter of New Orleans theater & vocal advocate for the city in Broadway, National and NY circles. He helped organize & performed at the grand reopening of the Saenger Theater, appearing with Kristin Chenoweth & Mayor Mitch Landrieu, receiving the Mayor's Key to the City for his contribution.

Cerveris is also a singer/songwriter & guitarist musician who has appeared with Pete Townshend, Frank Black, The Breeders, Teenage Fanclub, and Stone Temple Pilots. In 2004, he released his first solo album, Dog Eared. He performs regularly with his country band, Loose Cattle. Their live debut record, North Of Houston was released in 2013, followed by a new single, Pony Girl, in Nov. 2015. Michael's new solo record, Piety, on Low Heat Records was recorded with an all star roster of New Orleans musicians and nominated for a 2016 Best Of The Beat Award by OffBeat Magazine.

About Amber Edwards

Amber Edwards is an independent documentary filmmaker, whose most recent project is the feature documentary "Vince Giordano-There's a Future in the Past" about the iconic hot jazz bandleader and preservationist, which she directed and produced with longtime filmmaking partner Dave Davidson for their not-for-profit Production Company Hudson West Productions. A New York Times "Critics Pick", the film opened theatrically in January 2017 to uniformly rave reviews, and has been screened at art houses and film festivals across the country. Amber was the Producer and Director, with Co-Producer and Director of Photography Dave Davidson, of the nine-episode PBS series "Michael Feinstein's American Songbook", which completed its third season in April, 2013. Season One of the series received the ASCAP Deems Taylor Broadcast Award for Outstanding Musical Content and was nominated for two International Documentary Association Awards. Previous PBS documentaries include "A Place Out of Time-The Bordentown School" (Co-Producer/Writer, 2010) which told the story of the rise and fall of an exceptional African-American public boarding school; and she directed and produced "Words and Music by Jerry Herman" about the legendary Broadway composer/lyricist (PBS, 2008.)

Amber has been a partner in Hudson West Productions since 1989, and for 21 years was also Senior Producer and Host of New Jersey Public Television's long running weekly series "State of the Arts", where she earned 13 regional Emmy Awards as well as 8 CINE Golden Eagles and numerous other honors for her national PBS documentaries which include: "George Segal: American Still Life" (Producer/Director, 2001,) a portrait of the pioneering Pop Art sculptor; "Quicksand and Banana Peels: A Year in the Life of Two Principals" (Producer/Writer, 1998;) "Against the Odds: Artists of the Harlem Renaissance" (Producer/Director/Writer, 1994) which examined African-American visual art during the 1920s and '30s; "Vladimir Feltsman: Journey From Home" (Producer/Director/Writer, 1993) which followed the refusenik pianist on his first trip back to the Soviet Union after he had emigrated to the USA; and "The Dancing Man-Peg Leg Bates" (Co-Producer, 1992) about the one-legged black tap dancer and Catskills resort owner.

Amber is also a singer. She has performed in the long-running Lyrics and Lyricists series at the 92nd Street Y, and can be heard on the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack of the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire." She is a graduate of Yale University where she serves as a Fellow at Branford College; and is the founding Producer and Artistic Director of Yale Musical Theater of the Air, an award-winning alumni initiative that brings together professional Yale theater alumni with students, faculty, and staff to present classic American musicals in concert, including Kiss Me, Kate, My Fair Lady, and The Music Man.
