The Cape Playhouse presents the world premiere production direct from Geva Theatre in Rochester, NY of Women in Jeopardy! - a fun and flirtatious new comedy by Wendy MacLeod, directed by Sean Daniels. Women in Jeopardy! is opening on Tuesday, July 14 and running through Saturday, July 25.
Women in Jeopardy! is a special part of the 2015 season and will be only the second presentation of this hilarious contemporary tale. Heard last summer in a play reading as part of the new "Cape Playhouse Extras" series, and direct from the world premiere in Rochester, NY:
It's Thelma and Louise meets The First Wives Club when divorcees Mary and Jo are suspicious of their friend Liz's new dentist boyfriend. He may look a bit creepy, but is there really anything to worry about? The fact that his oral hygienist was recently murdered could be just a... coincidence. Imaginations run wild as they try to discover the truth, trading their wine glasses for spy glasses in a hilarious off-road adventure.
Wendy MacLeod's play, The House of Yes, became an award-winning Miramax film starring Parker Posey and was produced at many theatres including the Magic Theater, Soho Rep, the Washington Shakespeare Company, the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, and the Gate Theatre in London. Her other plays include Sin (The Goodman, Second Stage), Schoolgirl Figure (The Goodman), The Water Children and Juvenilia (Playwrights Horizons), and Things Being What They Are (Seattle Repertory Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre). Her play This Flight Tonight was seen in Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, which premiered in L.A., and was seen across the country and at NYC's Minetta Lane Theatre. She was the first playwright chosen for The Writers' Room residency at The Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, where she began Women in Jeopardy! Women in Jeopardy! was a featured reading during Geva's 2013-2014 Season. The Ballad of Bonnie Prince Chucky premiered at His Majesty's Theater in Aberdeen, Scotland and opened this season at A.C.T.'s Young Conservatory. Her prose has appeared in The New York Times, The Dramatist, POETRY, on Salon, The Rumpus, McSweeney's Internet Tendency and All Things Considered. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, she is the James E. Michael Playwright-in-Residence at Kenyon College and Artistic Director of the Kenyon Playwrights Conference.
Cape Playhouse favorite, Jennifer Cody (Mary) was last seen at the Cape Playhouse as Gwendolyn Pigeon in The Odd Couple. Other Cape productions include Hello Dolly!, Unnecessary Farce (Billie the cop), Moon Over Buffalo, Lend Me A Tenor. Broadway: A Christmas Story, Shrek, Pajama Game, Taboo, Urinetown, No No Nanette (encores), Best Little Whorehouse in Texas(Actor's fund), Seussical the Musical,Mr Magoo's Christmas(Actors Fund) Grease, Beauty and the Beast and Cats. Jennifer has spent the last few years lending her voice to movie and TV characters and commercials. She won the Annie award (The voiceover Oscar for Best Actor in an Animated Motion Picture Feature Film) for creating the voice of Charlotte La Boeuff in Disney's The Princess and the Frog. Making their Cape Playhouse debuts in Women in Jeopardy! are Laurie Wells (Broadway/National tours of Mamma Mia! and Swing!) as Liz; Julia Brothers (Broadway's Relatively Speaking) as Liz's friend, Jo. Rounding out the cast are Liam Craig (Broadway's Boeing Boeing) as the dentist suspect, Ashley Shamoon as Mary's spacey daughter, and Scott Rad Brown as the snowboarding boyfriend.
